Brilliant photos ... well done to your son, Holly! ... Often see these sitting atop the end marker poles of the groynes in the sea ... very medieval looking birds ... :o)

The moment I saw these brilliant pictures, this little ditty sprang to mind:-

The common cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason you will see no doubt,
It is to keep the lightning out.
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed is, that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns,
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

No, before anyone asks, I didn't write it. Wish I had, though! :o)))))

I love watching cormorants dive. No matter how often i see it, I always experience a tense few moments after they disappear until they suddenly surface quite a bit away from the dive point with their catch.
