Bread&Milk is very Bad for Hoggys Dawn it gives them the Runs :/ Cat Food is Best :) Even cats are`nt ment2drink Milk ! Very Bad for their Digestive System :/

26 Feb, 2009

Cat and dog food ok Dawn but cannot digest cows milk so not recommended.

Some people buy a special nut mix for hedgehogs as can be left out at night for them and doesn t attract local cat population.oops sorry Jacque posted as you did x

Oh dear, naughty me, I should know about the milk being bad being married to a dairy man - I think the milk contains lactose or something like that which is bad.

Yay! Jac, what a lovely blog! Good luck to all your lovely Hoggies - won't it be a thrill in years to come to see the sames ones over and over again and know they are the ones you released? I wonder how long the tags last - do the spins fall out in time like hair or fur would? Did you tell the staff at the hoggie place that you were doing a blog? Otherwise they were probably wondering why all the photos?!

I liked the photos of the hoggies trundling away into the darkness too and the ones where they looked back over their shoulder at you ;-)

My moggs Birtie LOVES milk, but if she has just a little bit it makes her VERY sick and poorly - I have to be careful not to leave any milk where she might get at it :-(

26 Feb, 2009

Just great Jacque. Do they make Hedgehog chow for you to feed them? : )

26 Feb, 2009

Wonderful blog, Jacque, so exciting to see them trundle off in the darkness. Blondie is very striking, isn't he. Look forward to hearing further news as it happens! Good luck.

26 Feb, 2009

Forgot to say, great photos - especially that lovely one of Blondie with his little pink snout. Great.

26 Feb, 2009

Did you just see them go in those photos. I hope they'll come back to visit you. I hope they'll be alright. They're brilliant photos. I'm glad they were set free. It's how they should be. Will you let us know if they come back to visit you ? It was wonderful to see them :o) Thanks Jacque.

26 Feb, 2009

Oh Jacque that is fabulous....Setting free Hoggy AND his friends. Marvellous. I love the photos. I felt like singing "Born Free". LOL. I love Blondy. What a great colour. I hope they find your Hoggy Hotel and decide to hang out their shingle. I have only ever seen on hedgehog in the wild and that was when I was about 8 years old. These photos are wonderful. I hope they stick around or at least come back for a visit.
Very well done indeed Jacque. xx

Jacque thats brilliant, bet you get a torch now lol,I know I would ,dont think I have ever seen a blonde one either, lets hope they stay around your garden. However a word of warning please be careful around your pond area and especially the waterfall, they unfortunately can be a deathtrap for the hedgehogs as I sadly learnt a few years ago....

In the US we have a company (Purina) that makes dog and cat food called Chow. Years ago they started making "Chows" for other animals both pets and farm animals. Now they have chows for 100's of different animals. It has become a big joke that if it exists they must make a "Chow" for it!
I actually thought Purina dog chow was available in the UK, so it didn't occur to me that it wouldn't make sense. Sorry! : )

27 Feb, 2009

Jacque what a brill blog so glad they are ok, i've heard of gold hedgehogs but never sen one, i do hope they keep coming back to your garden good luck with them.

Thanks for answering my questions Jac ;-) Now, go out and get yourself a torch! And a camera that works in the dark if possible :-D

Wohlibuli - Purina do sell pet food in the Uk, but I don't think it's called Chow.....? It's a Chinese word isn't it?

27 Feb, 2009

Lol Sid, Chow is a slang term for food. So cat food is cat chow! A waitress is someone who "slings chow"! : )

Jacque ~ What a wonderful experience and good for you for helping out. Do you take other wildlife in or just this once. I should think it would be very rewarding. You go girl!

28 Feb, 2009

Brilliant Jacque, what an amazing story! I've never seen a blonde hedgehog before either, I didn't even know they could be that colour. I'm sure they'll be regular visitors to you and I bet they know they'll be well looked after in your garden.
I was so happy last night when our security light came on and there was a hedgehog scurrying past the window. He was drinking water from a tray left out for the birds, so I gave him some Iams Cat food and he happily crunched away. He'd finished them and gone by the time I'd found new batteries for the camera but I do hope he comes back.
You'll have to keep us posted about when you see your lovelies again.
