How lovely! I had one in the garden yesterday & my friend was going to squash it! i told him to get out, nothing gets killed in my garden except wasps & that's only cos I'm so allergic to them!

I got all excited seeing one!!
3 Aug, 2009
it is a good feeling 2 see them isnt it Madperth :)
3 Aug, 2009
Yes, I was so chuffed! I'd like my garden to be as wildlife friendly as poss! I really miss being right out in the countryside, I used to have deer visit in the mornings, foxes at night & even my own aerobatics display at sunset courtesy of the bats who lived in my attic! I loved it!

Nice pictures Jacque. I think we're all suckers for a Ladybird.(lovely looking insects). I hadn't seen many until recently. But now my Fennel is so big and full of flowers, it is full of Ladybirds as well as Hoverflies , Wasps etc.(Insect city as I described it in my blog) Mind you, I did get stung by a wasp whilst trying to tie the Fennel up after strong winds!!!!

I love The Out Doors 2 :) it must of been amazing seeing The Bats,Deers&Foxes :)
3 Aug, 2009
Thanx Paul :)i must have a look@ your Blog iv not seen it :/ Dont Wasp Stings Hurt :(

We have a bat in our front garden,Madperth, which we see flying around at night. It's been here a few years now but never worked out exactly where it's living.I wondered if it was in the huge conifer hedge in next door's garden but I don't know if Bats live in conifers. I know they usually find buildings to live in. But, like you, I love to see them circling the garden!
3 Aug, 2009
I'm lucky enough to be close to the river & woods, so I still get to see all these fascinating creatures now & again, but the deer & the foxes used to come up to the house to get fed!
is it just the one, Paul? That's quite unusual!
3 Aug, 2009
Well, that's what I thought Madperth, but we've only ever seen one at a time over the last 5 or 6 years! We sometimes sit at night with our curtains open so we can see it swooping and flying around!
3 Aug, 2009
Maybe it's just antisocial!
3 Aug, 2009
Who knows??!!! I like watching him though!
3 Aug, 2009
A friend of mine gets a nightly visit from about 8 of them, & she's terrified, won't go out if theyre around!
I had one come down my chimney one night. I thought it was a bird so I put the light on & it went nuts! So I put the light out, coaxed it onto my shoulder & took it outside. It was great seeing it so close up- they're really cute! It was a pipistrelle & tiny!
3 Aug, 2009
I was so upset when my cat caught one and dumped it on the mat, I couldn't make out what it was at first as it was tiny and all folded up (pipistrelle I think). Don't know how she caught it, she's usually hopeless (fortunately)
3 Aug, 2009
That was the one gift Smudge has never brought me, thankfully! I'd have been upset too! I don't like it when she kills things, but I suppose it's just nature.
3 Aug, 2009
Certainly seems a good year for the ladybirds, Jacque, lovely photos.
3 Aug, 2009
Thanx Gee :)

Super pics, Jacque. Ladybirds are VERY photgenic, as well as uselful, aren't they? :-)
3 Aug, 2009
you must have a very healthy garden Jacue. it always makes me smile when i see ladybirds.
3 Aug, 2009
I,m another who gets excited if I see one, very scarce in my garden although I have loads of butterfly`s this year and also we do get the bats but no idea where they actually live..............
3 Aug, 2009
I'm glad you've got Ladybirds as well, Jacque! I've seen quite a few over the last few days.
Yes, we are officially 'batty'...we have bats in our roof space. Due to the horrible weather, we haven't seen as many this year at dusk, but on fine evenings, there they are! It's great to watch them.

Jacque . did you see the news last night , apparently there has been an invasion of ladybirds on the coast again at Cromer it,s so bad that it,s affecting the tourist trade because people don,t want to get out of their cars , people are walking on them crushing them underfoot ... no wonder we are getting so many in our gardens !
4 Aug, 2009
lovely pics jacque arent you yhe lucky one i've seen none yet though when i do i'll try to encourage them into the greenhouse to get any unwanted bugs in there.
4 Aug, 2009
Great pictures Jacque. I wish I could get mine in that detail -and in such good focus!, you must have a steady hand or perhaps a tripod? I have plenty of slugs and snails to take pictures of!
4 Aug, 2009
Lovely photo's Jacque,we haven't had many ladybirds yet-could do with Amy sending some up the coast to Lincs !
There was an invasion of them back in the '70's as well but you won't be old enough to remember that :)
We have never had so many hoverflies and butterflies,or have they just been waiting for the sun ?
7 Aug, 2009
Stunning photos Jacque really clear and in focus-a bit different from most of mine-you must have a sturdy tripod or steady hand or both!
7 Aug, 2009
Great shots yet again Jacque.
10 Aug, 2009
great pics jacque, have you had the plague of ladybirds since this ?
11 Aug, 2009

11 Aug, 2009

11 Aug, 2009
love these photos! when you said lady birds I had to see which birds you meant as I am a big fan of birds( I have two cockatiels I share my kitchen with) until I saw the pictures. Here in the US we call them lady bugs. But in retrospect, lady birds sound better.
