TLC for an Old Friend

The heavy gales and rainfall have taken their toll around the garden – nothing to drastic as yet but ….. looking through the conservatory window we could see that our long term friend the fir tree was in trouble and was at high risk of being uprooted.
As you can see the tree sports coloured lanterns and fairy lights a blackbird spends a lot of his time in the tree keeping an eye on the sultana dish and it is a favourite in the garden
covered in powdered snow and each year or so it was
potted on – until finally it was given a spot in the garden.
We rushed out and bought the two posts last Saturday and with a neighbours help managed to get them in situ and it seems to have done the trick
The above pic was taken this summer gone It wears its baubles well !Jane

i used to have a semi-resident blackbird, that is untill the neighbours cat got it. he to had a weakness for sultanas, which led i suspect to his undoing as i used to chuck them in the garden. best of luck with the tree, but have heard that conifers dislike root disturbance

Thankyou all for your comments - the tree is special and it seems to be ok - our garden is so wet at the moment and we have now got a leak in the pool so a new liner has been bought and we are in the middle of replacing that - it will be lovely to see the spring bulbs again although the Hellebores continue to flower - Jane
