Operation "COLOUR" has commenced lol

With my daughter Laura getting married this August, we will be having family and friends coming up, that have not seen our house yet. The plants that we inherited here didn’t have a lot of colour and even in the height of summer the garden felt very “just green”.

Hubby has a thing for blue pots and he wanted some wall ones to put along the front of the house as we thought the blue would look nice against the yellow, the colour the house is painted. We had been looking for some ever since we had moved but with no luck. I had even done Google searches but still couldn’t find any and decided they must have gone out of fashion.

There is a small garden nursery about 10 miles away that I had kept driving pass, and kept promising myself that I would go in and have a look. Finally did so a couple of weeks ago, and what did I find, lots of wall pots and even in blue?! We managed to get 4 big ones and 2 smaller ones to go either side of the front porch.

While we were there a windmill took my fancy so Hubby bought it for me. Please excuse the fence, I’ve got to paint it yet.

Now I had to think about what to put in them and then also in other pots that I already had. This is what has arrived today so I have spent the morning potting up.

40 Busy Lizzie Xtreme – Red, plug plants

5 Begonia Dragon Wing – Red

5 Giant Fuchsia Bicentennial

And Finally- 5 Surfinia – Crazy Pink

I have also started from seed,

Antirrhinum- Double Madame butterfly which 45 have come up, Delphinium – Magic Fountains which 42 have come up,

Delphinium – High Society which only 8 have come up
Lobelia- Queen Victoria which 14 have come up
Delphinium – Pacific giants which I’m still waiting to see if any come up. ?

Last week I got 3 “Roald Dahl” roses and for mothers day Laura got me a “Maid of Kent” climbing rose. Then for Valentine Hubby got me a “Hot Chocolate” rose as he knew he had earned lots of brownie points with the “Laura Ford” rose he got me last year.

So fingers crossed, operation “colour” has started and hopefully the garden will full of colour in time for Laura’s wedding. ?

Sounds as though you are very busy. Love the colour scheme, especially the lovely blue wall pots. Good luck with your endeavours. Looking forward to seeing the garden in bloom and the wedding !

Thank you Karen and Marjorie, fingers crossed it will look full of colour. Tomorrow the girls complete on their 1st house. It has a nice garden and since for the 1st time it will be their own garden so can do what they want so they can have some of what I've grown to save them a bit of money.

Marjorie, I will make sure I take photos of the wedding. They are having it at a lovely place called Soulton Hall. My daughter's theme is casual and comfy so no hat for me lol ?

The blue/yellow colour scheme seems to hint at the Mediterranean. It will be a perfect backdrop for the wedding. I hope everything grows, and grows, and grows!

Thank you Eirlys. Wedding is taking plaçe at a place called Soulton Hall. Since it is a far distance for everyone to travel, a few have booked holiday cottages and are staying in the area and staying for a week so will have lots of visitors ?

Well done Jen, on your purchases...
those blue wall pots are cute !

Thank you TT. We had some at our old house but they were Greek urn shaped that sat up against the wall at an angle which made them harder to plant up so we left them there. Was really pleased not only to find some but they also will be much easier to plant up and water.

Busy and exciting times ahead Jen, will be good to see them when they are in bloom, good luck with all your preparations and I am praying for some good weather to arrive for all of us....

Sounds like a great venture, Jen. With two unmarried boys of around forty I am really jealous.

Thank you Lincslass. Fingers crossed about weather. The Girls are doing a lot of the organisation themselves, at moment we are just giving them money towards it all and being sounding board. The venue are doing food and drink and given them contacts for other things. But wedding been on a little bit of back burner as the girls completed on their 1st house today. They have overlapped with their rented house so we are moving them over the next couple of weeks.

Thank you Shirley. It's not easy living so close to David Austin's nursery lol. Only 1/2 he drive away.

Linda, I never thought I would see Laura married but then the law was changed allowing gay marriage. Got my fingers crossed for you that you finally get to buy 2 hats ?

Thank you Hywel. Was really pleased when found them and they were not a bad price. £7 something for the bigger ones and £4 something for the smaller ones.

Isn't it weird how things go out of fashion? Lots of the gardening makeover shows sneer at the blue pots and chuck them out (what a waste) but anything to give a bright and cheerful look is good in my book.

That's our feeling Honeysuckle, when we moved I gave over 40 pots to my next door neighbour as Hubby wanted to stick to the blue as he feels that even on the darkest winters day, they give colour. The good thing about fashion is though, is it always comes back around so at some point I'll be back in fashion lol

Agree - and its a good reason for totally ignoring fashions all together and stick to what you like.

Thank you Stroller. That's why we like them. I have a tall blue bottle (not fly as Paulspatch thought I ment) it's about 4ft that started the "blue" collection lol.
