Saturday 17-jan. The sun was shining at 9am no gardening to do and the car was pretty clean. Jack my 13 year old Grandson arrived, Jack looked a bit bored and I felt a bit bored, I ask Jack, do you want to do anything today he shruged his shoulders.I said lets take the dart (Train) somewhere. So off to Howth train station we went 20min wait for the dart to leave the station, still not knowing where we were going, while sitting on a bench outside the station we were looking across Dublin bay from howth towards Dun Laoghaire, the ferry was sailing passed. My grandson jack asked where is that ship going. Dun Laoghaire and that is where we are going, hoped on the train and in 3 min we were of.
Dun Laoghaire here we come, about 40 min journey
Going across the river liffey by train
Arriving at Dun Laoghaire Harbour
No its not my yacht, wish it was
Coastline of Dun Laoghaire, there is lovely walkways along the coast.
This is where B/A and her friend M/D played her penny whistle on a visit to Dun Laoghaire and they were very good lol.
Photo taking from the harbour wall, in the distance you can see Howth where Jack and myself started our train journey from
End of Harbour wall looking back at Dun Laoghaire
In the Distance is the next Coast town Bray is in Co. Wicklow they call it the garden of Ireland. Maybe next train trip will be Bray
Had a lovely day with my grandson Jack, time to take him for something to eat at Mc Donalds of course his favourite.
Time now to say goodbye to Dun Laoghaire and head home after a lovely day
Just before we entered train station I met this lovely brute.

Thank you Lincsass, It is nice to go out with the grandchildren. I never knew my grandparents as they had passed away before I was born. I did miss not ever meeting them.
I thank you Hywel, I am glad you enjoyed my trip with my grandson, I have another 5 grandchildren. If I had to bring them all at the same time I would have to rob a bank.... Lol...

What a lovely way to spend the day. IJack looks a happy lad...I look out at the Irish Sea everyday but have never been across to visit your beautiful land even though so much of my family history is based there.

Thank you Sandra, maybe some day you will take the plunge lol and cross the Irish sea, you would be more than welcome from us Irish. We on both sides of the Irish sea have a lot in common. The harbour in the blog is where thousands if not millions left these shores to find work and make home in the UK.

My ancestors hail from youghal and as you say came to the mainland for work. I can see the irish ferry sail from pembroke dock every afternoon Johnjoe on its way to Rhoslaire one day I wil be on it!!

Lets hope Sandra, you make it to Ireland some day, and visit your ancestral home in Youghal co Cork. Youghal is a lovely town on the coast at the mouth of the river Blackwater with plenty of good fish restaurants and of course pubs.

Thanks for sharing this JJ. We have fond memories of Ireland. We've been there several times on holiday. The last trip was a complete tour of Ireland over 10 days. We ended up at Belfast and seeing the Titanic exhibition. We love the Irish music and dance.

Your more than welcome Lindak. Glad you enjoyed you holiday in Ireland, it's lovely when the weather is fine. Walking or should I say hiking holidays seem to be getting very popular hikers are a hardy bunch sun wind and rain doesn't seem to bother them.

Thank JJ, some fabulous photos. I worked in South Dublin for 12 months in Clonskeagh, at Smurfits Paper Mill. I also stayed in a hotel at Howth, on one occasion, which had 2 golf courses, one 18 and a short 9 hole course. A colleague and I got up at 6 am one morning to play the short course before breakfast, with the most stunning views over Dublin bay.

Hi Alanb, I also played some golf not very good at the hotel you stayed in, and lost a good few golf balls in the lake on the nine hole course. The 3 courses are pretty good for public courses and are as good as any golf club courses. I hope you had a pleasant stay at Howth. I agree with you that the scenery is stunning. Unfortunately my little camera is not good enough to capture it. I also used to do some work at Smurfits Paper Mills many moons ago. I have some photos on my photo page 12 of the entrance to the hotel and golf course they are not very good might bring back some memories of your stay/ Thanks Alanb for your comment on my blog.
