RHS Hyde Hall in winter 2008 - part I

First time I went to visit the gardens located in Essex just before Christmas in 2008. Me and my collegues from my course went there to look for some winter interest plants.
It was cloudy and cold day but we enjoyed it.
The old entrance was close to the Dry Garden.
We headed to the restaurant for something warm to drink – hot chocolate for me;-)
After the refreshements we went to see what was looking nice in winter months.
Really liked this huge pot covered with nice duvet of ivy ‘Oro di Bogliasco’
View at the Upper Pond
Next area near the Library – bit of formality
Walking along the Upper Pond – loved the reflection of that stately Cedar in the water.
On our way to Lower Ponds
Closer view at those black twigs – Salix myrsinifolia
Like this combination – Pampass Grass and Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire’
Lower Ponds – and Gunnera manicata sleeping under the green blankets;-)
This little bridge will take us back.
Looking back at the Lower Pond
I imagine it must be nice to sit on those benches and enjoy summer sunshine…
And now that’s what I call winter border.
There is so much more to show you – so that’s the end of part I.

Thank you guys for all your lovely comments. I wasn't very keen on grasses before, but in winter they add so much into the garden.
Glad you like my pictures. I keep saying if I knew then what I know now about taking pics... still plenty to learn, lol.
Part 2 and 3 to follow soon.
Yes Terra - I have visited the gardens next year (2009) in autumn. So another blog to follow one day...;-)
