Tidying up the rockery and the hill.

Hello everyone,
This is my first time writing a blog. I’ve never written a blog before, so I’ll give it a try.
I’ve been out in the garden this morning, tidying up after the wind and rain yesterday. Transplanted a juniper which was hidden amongst lots of shrubs behind our little shed come small log store. Replanted it a bit higher up on the almost vertical hill/bund from where it was. In its’ place, the new Acer I bought yesterday has been planted. Not far from the juniper’s new position, we planted taxus baccata.
Weeded and tidied this hilly spot, as a lot of rubble tends to gather.
The rockery was originally part of the bund, but several of us have utilized this area for planting. One neighbour has put a greenhouse on it right at the bottom, not sure how stable it is!

Welcome Kate, I'm another newbie to this site & blogging so you're not alone

It looks colourful

Seems this site picture uploads are not user friendly, yours are upside down

I found I have to save & review draft, then edit, to get it right

Once sorted it gets addictive, now I keep thinking "oh that'll be good for the blog"

Hello Kate welcome , we are a friendly lot and the members are very helpful. Your garden looks lovely so we will be waiting for more photos as the year goes on.
By the way your photos are the right way on my I pad !!

Thank you both Grandad and Marjorie! Much appreciated. Yes, I noticed that on my iPad the photos were right way up, but on my phone, they were all over and upside down!
Thank you both for your lovely comments :)

I hadto google ‘bund’ never heard that before! Looks lovely Kate. I can imagine that area needing quite a lot of maintenance. I have a sloping golden border and its also quite a lot of work. Tends to get very dry and very weedy.

Hi Karen, thank you for your message, very kind.
It is pretty difficult to maintain as it’s almost vertical. We, like some other neighbours try to keep it tidy. I agree, like your slope, it gets quite dry and weedy.
Our bund is a sound barrier between the gardens and a nearby shipping port.

Greetings and welcome, Kate. I am a garden-watcher and lately am leaving our garden to gardeners, not from choice. It's wonderful starting with a blank canvas and ending up with a work of art. Good luck with the bund (new to me and I had to Google it also!).

Thank you Eirlys for your lovely welcome! I am guessing you still enjoy the garden while the gardeners are making it look nice and tidy for you! You are spot on, having a blank canvas and building up your favourite plants and style is a joy! Thank you also for the best wishes re. The bund! It will keep me fit hopefully :)

It all looks good, welcome to the world of blogging, I was only thinking how some new members should take the plunge and let us interested (or nosy) people know how you are getting on. I always think it's nice to have a slope of some kind, a showcase to display plants and eventually I hope to have my version of a rockery. Living in Norfolk where it's flat, any slight change of elevation is sheer excitement! Is this at the end of your garden or a communal space, you mention neighbours, is this what they have done in their own garden or all together?

You should be proud of what you've achieved Kate! And its great to see pics - its quite different from how I imagined it (and much prettier...) I didn't know what a bund is either. This is a very educational blog!

It looks really pretty worth the up keep.

Thank you for your kind messages Honeysuckle, Stera and Thrup! Very much appreciated, lovely feedback!
It has taken a few years to plant it up, it did have some sporadic trees/shrubs on it already. Lots of brambles grow to, so, we try to keep on top of those too - not everyone does though. Which is ok I guess.
Honeysuckle- the bund/hill is at the bottom of the gardens, it’s a sound barrier. It runs right all the way along the back, starts from the river.

That's a shame others don't bother as brambles are a nightmare.

Hello Kate and Welcome, I've enjoyed reading your blog, you have done very well, I lingered on the sidelines for a few weeks when I first joined, it was all new and exciting as the site had only just started, that was a very long time ago now, I had also never heard of a bund, well not in that context anyway, I always think of it as a political gathering, where I live they are known as baffle banks, reading your explaination I realise I've seen them in various places, some good like yours, it looks very attractive and I like your choice of planting, others definitely not attractive at all..I hope you get as much enjoyment from Goy as I have and look forward to seeing more of your garden...

Thank you kindly Lincslass, I have to say, I did the same. I waited for a bit and read through everyone else’s blogs to get an idea of how to write one!
Thank you for your lovely feedback too, much appreciated!
Hopefully, I’ll write another blog this week! I finish work tomorrow for the week, so, should get the chance!

All looking colourful and lovely, Kate. Well done on your first blog . . . most of us are nervous at first, and in fact my sons were disbelieving (but I hope impressed). Now that you’ve started there’ll be no stopping you!

Thank you Sheila, it was difficult to start with. I think I read A LOT of blogs on here to understand how it’s done!

Hi Kate, your garden is looking great, and well done on your first blog, I remember doing my first blog, it was more like a novel, it was so long, but quite a few people liked it, and some of the questions it raised, encouraged me to write a sequel, Derek.
ps I didn't know what a 'bund' was either, but I do now, and all without 'googling' Derek.

Thanks Derek, appreciate your feedback. I really will try another blog, soon, hopefully! Yes, the bund! Fortunately, it is thriving with shrubbery!
