For the love of Irises. Part one

Where do I start, where would anyone start to write about these universal loved rainbow flowers. The rainbow suggests they have every colour of the spectrum, but of course there is no true red at this point, and I am sure the breeders will continue this quest for a very long time.
The sheer scope of the types is astounding and I am always finding pictures of ones I did know existed.
I suppose if I have a favourite type, it would be Germanica, just the vast amount of cultivars would take a life time to see. But my absolute favourite Iris is the bog standard Iris Siberica, seen on a fellow allotment holder’s plot, he kindly gave me a clump, which I brought with me when I moved here. To me it is perfection, the form, elegant leaves, exquisite bloom and wonderful colour, I would not want to garden without it.

I love iris too, there is one for nearly all seasons. I love the heralds of spring with the reticulata type.

Ldog We have a friend who specialises in Irises , he belongs to an Iris society and gives talks about them I've been fortunate in being able to have some beautiful ones from him when he has been in the process of splitting them up in his garden , he sells his ' spares' at out horticultural club to help the club funds ... ..

You are very lucky Amy, I expect who ever benefits from this will do the same for some-one else and so it continues, which is why I give away mine on freecycle, a very rewarding pastime. Thanks every-one for your comments and I will add more soon, happy gardening!

I love them too....they remind me of my father who was my great gardening chum when he was alive. He grew them in large clusters. Wonderful!

Linda I had a smile just then - I read dusters instead of clusters...the mind boggles!

They are wonderful aren't they? I do prefer the blues to the yellows but can't choose between these three! The white ones are gorgeous too - white in the next installment?
