Hullo Everyone. Well I have planted 9 bags of new potatoes with still more to plant. The variety that is racing ahead at the moment is rocket. I bought them for a song in Wilkinsons. Next are the maris peer for which I paid top price complete with 8 growing bags. Falling way behind and hardly showing are kestrel swift charlotte, with red duke of york making good growth. How are the other testers doing? It maybe that rocket does not produce as well in the end or that the flavour is inferior. We wait and see.

I planted Vales Emerald about 3 weeks ago,and no sign yet.Maybe, now it has rained,I will see some progress soon.I have watered them in this dry spell, but I don't think its the same.I planted Belle de ..?(forgotten last name) last week,so obviously too early yet.,to comment.Bearing in mind, that some nights have been cold,so I covered them with garden fleece,as a precaution,I'm sure we will be seeing growth soon....

Vales emerald is similar to Swift,I go to a potato day, every Feb,and intended to get Swift and Charlotte, but within 30 mins of opening, they had sold out,so got those instead, and the Belle de fontenay..(remembered the name.lol)
will have to wait and see if they are as good..nice to try something different.!
re water butts,.. now half full,or half empty,if you are a pessimist:o)

Thank you for your comments I too have planted VALES EMERALD They came with a kit. No rain here for 16 days so everything is dry. Water butt quarter full only. Little perishers of squirrels have disturbed my seedlings in new raised bed and planted peanuts. I dug up some turf and what did I find ?peanuts. I dug up a piece of the rockery and found more peanuts. They are everwhere. I have found out my near neighbour buys about a pound in weight of these nuts and feeds them daily to the squirrels who instead of eating them bury them in my patch. The potatoes I planted into the soil are just putting in an appearance but we so need rain

Oh,dear, the squirrels must like your garden better.Lol.I wonder if they will come looking for them in the winter? You will have to be like the former President of the U.S.A Jimmy Carter, and earn your fortune as a peanut farmer,:o))
