Colour in the garden

Another very windy cold day and everything is taking a bashing, the apples are falling faster than I can collect them, shame really as they haven`t reached their usual size yet, normally my bottom tree is not ready until October…
Cucumbers still doing well, not for much longer though as the leaves are turning now its gone cold…
Toms are still doing well, though taking ages to ripen now.
I`ve potted up some of my Geraniums today as well, hope we don`t have last years conditions as I lost all of them even though I have a heater….
Then it was a wander around the garden just havin a look, well you have to don`t you…
Chrysanths budding up and a huge Poppy bud..
The only Penstemon to survive last winter, I have lots of new ones dotted about so hopefully will have different colours next year, once again we`ll have to stay hopeful..
It might be cold but still have plenty to admire..
As long as I never looked up at the very grey cloudy sky I could pretend it was still summer…..

You`ve still got some lovely colour going on there Lincs.
My Orientalle Poppy is trying to flower again and another huge bud on it, it was quite warm here today in between the light showers the poor flowers dont seem to no whether they`re coming or going. Lets hope we can hang on to our geraniums this year - at least you`ve got yours in not moved mine yet.

It's really horrid here tonight Lincslass, I'm really fed up, can't get to plant my bulbs, they are something to look forward to next spring.
You still have a lot of colour, my geraniums are still flowering well, so I shall leave them as long as possible. I don't have a green house but am hoping for one of those plastic walk in ones for my b'day next month. It will sit just inside the garage. So double protection from the elements.

Lincslass what is the one under 'It might be cold ....'. Does it have a kind of honey scent?

Plenty of colour in your garden Lincslass. Have I seen zinnias? They are supposed to require a lot of warm weather. At least that is what I am told. I like your cucumbers. They look like mine. The only difference I grow them flat in the outside.

Lovely colour considering how the weather's been. Mine is looking very sad just now must make some notes on what you have still flowering!

I do still have some geraniums outside, hadn`t got the heart to move all of them.
Ginellie that is my Abelia grandiflora, a great favourite of mine,it is lightly scented but to me its more a slight whiff of lilac, when the flowers have finished the bush will go red and still be attractive...
Yes Costas, there are zinnias, they have really struggled this year and in fact I did lose a lot. Those cucumbers have really done me proud, they have produced a lot more than my other ones and are delicious, I`m hoping to save some seed for next year...

Grannyb I have loads of bulbs waiting but they`ll not go in yet, I`m not clearing those Nicotiana out until I have to, lol, the perfume is gorgeous, I always end up putting my bulbs in when its cold, daft I know but I never give up on my summer plants until they really give up the ghost, I spend ages deadheading...

I've still got Nicotina flowering well, they're in pots. Like you I shall leave as long as possible. Will definitley plant them again next year.
I think for the tulips most of them will go in pots for ease of lifting and the daffs will go where they won't be disturbed too much.
The rain has stopped for now, but it's still grey and miserable.

I grow Nicotina every year in pots then can move them where there is no colour left..they alst for ages!!!!! :)

That was lovely Sue. Nice to see your colourful flowers lasting so well this year.
I'm glad you had some tasty cucumbers, and good luck with your geraniums and Penstemons this coming winter - I hope it's a mild one this time.

We had a beautiful day yesterday, spent it in the garden, you have to while ever you can. Everything is looking good still in yours Lincslass, hope you get some better weather soon. Strange how different it can be in parts of the county not that far apart. We have been praying for rain and at last got some but not enough to get down through the ground to the roots, think the plants have just about given up. Some are ok but those that are usually still flowering at this time have gone to seed. Still some colour there though, the roses help keep the colour going for a while. Yours look lovely. Good luck with the cuttings and plants you are hoping to keep over the winter.
