Hot, Hot , Hot!!!!!

Not knocking it folks but we went from one extreme to the other, the bank holiday weekend was bitterly cold and then we got sunshine and warmth which pretty quickly turned very hot, I had to rescue my plants that live on the patio and move them to the bottom pond area in the shade, now that is something I would never do at this time of the year, I have even resorted to washing the paintwork down indoors because its been too hot to be outside, lol…
I have taken back all my gardening jobs this year, great relief to my hubby as he does dislike faffing about as he calls it (how rude is that) I have my tomato’s set out in the circles, cucumbers are doing well but still in the top house as last year I lost them to a rodent when I popped them in my bottom house, I’ m taking no chances with these ones and will keep them in pots for a few more weeks yet so as they are a lot bigger and too tough for mousey’s supper when I plant them in their bags.
My first lot of beans are in the ground and doing well but my raised bed so far is a failiure, I am spitting feathers about that as they were all new packets of seed and so far all I have are about a dozen tiny lettuces, hubby wanted to dismantle it last year and let the grass grow back again, I ’m beginning to think its a good idea but we shall see.
The weather was wet for weeks on end but the spring flowers have been outstanding this year so something was working to our advantage..

Love is in the air…..

Enjoy your gardens …….

Don't start throwing out the baby with the bath water linclass, the weather is supposed to turn cooler again this week... (sigh!) Having said that, your garden is looking super.

Crikey, your veg are so much ahead of mine.Mine have been a disaster so far this year ...and I've not as sowed any beans yet.
The temperature is set to drop again this weekend. Its forecast to be minimum 14c tonight and maximum 13 C during the day sat/Sunday with nighttime low of 6 c. I currently have no heater so difficult growing in the greenhouse.I have my old electric heater but no power supply outside.gonna buy a second hand large paraffin heater although paraffin is so expensive nowadays!

Well its now raining here in West London, but still uncomfortably warm and now, of course, really humid to boot... my rolling tobacco's gone all soggy and damp. Garden looks good, and I'm glad its not only me who can't stand excessive warmth any more...

The garden looks great, ther's nothing like Primulas, daffs and tulips to brighten up the Spring. It's been miles too hot for me, like you I hid indoors and tidied up all things that keep accumulating on every spare surface, three of us here and not one of us puts things away when we come in!
Dashed out and did some weeding when it cooled in the evenings, but now we have some very light rain and more to follows tomorrow. If it can slowly build up that would be great, rather than a torrential downp0ur that runs straight off.

Been great here Lass :) ill take it when I can forgetting what colour the sun is, Garden is looking beautiful takes a lot of faffing about to make a garden that nice ;)

Oh yes Waddy its turned cooler here now and our rain is forecast for Weds/Thurs, hoping it doesn't come tomorrow, the flipping lawns are growing so fast but I sure couldn't tackle them this weekend..
Paul I was very dubious about putting my beans out because it can change so quickly but they were in danger of becoming too leggy so I thought sod it they'll just have to take their chances, I changed to an electric heater a few years back because the parrafin was so expensive, I leave it on the frost setting and it will only come on if the temps drop to freezing I actually think it works out cheaper than the parrafin plus its so much cleaner and I never get all the condensation any more, now that is a plus..

Hiya Bamboo, I am lucky that half my garden is in shade so can retreat down the bottom but when its humid you just can't get away from it can you, says a lot when one chooses to work indoors doesn't it. We've had about four spots of rain tonight, only know that cos daughter counted them on the glass patio table, you shouldn't get that baccy soggy it don't smoke when its like that, lol....

Honey there are three of us here as well and we are the same, I tidy up and then watch when they just dump things on the worktops, its frustrating at times but home is home and we aren't going to change, plus there are also the cats and dogs, nowhere is perfect when you have them.
The flowers have lasted so well this year, I could say I planned it that way but you know I'd be fibbing, lol, I'm hoping it doesn't come down in torrents because it really won't do any good if it just rolls off the top will it, was very hard going when I first went out digging after all those months of rain, I haven't many weeds yet but thats cos I cram things in and don't leave enough room for them to grow, now dandelions are a beggar this year, was leaving them for the bees but don't want them seeding everywhere so been round with my trusty tool before the clocks appear, the bees are spoiled enough with my choice of planting....

Yes, electric is much better....I used an electric heater in my potting shed at the other house for a few years but not an option here with no outside electricity supply.I had an electrician have a look the other day but it seems it wouldn't be feasible to get a supply in the garden.

Hiya Vic, yes I'm quite happy with my faffing really and know he's only teasing although he's been hinting again about me making it easier, I just ignore him and carry on, lol...
It was great at first but I haven't got my mojo sorted out yet and afraid it became too much yesterday, we aren't used to it here are we, not s'posed to be out in the sunshine for too long now so thought I'd better behave myself....

Your garden looks beautiful, Lincs.

Lovely day here today, and I have to confess to having spent much of it sitting outside. I am so glad I spent so much time in the last fortnight getting the garden to rights, otherwise I would have felt very guilty, instead of feeling a little smug... It got very windy during the afternoon - we were nicely sheltered on the patio, close to the house; the blossom whirling off the neighbour's flowering cherry was like a snowstorm!

Oh thats a shame, Paul is it too far to use a cable, we have our heavy duty safety one that we bought when we had our caravan, I just string it along the washline in the winter, Dereks always said about setting it up properly like he did with the fishpond but its on his todo list, lol...

I love your primulas and those iris are gorgeous. Mine are still just buds. Ha Ha Lincs that great 'to do list'. You need 'a roundtuoit'. If he is like my OH you will get a reply along the lines of 'It will be here when I am not'. I can see you are good at coming up with ways around the gardening problems. You are also a very good gardener. It is so tidy and well kept looking. I hope mine will look better after a few more weeks of work on it. I keep getting side tracked to take photos of the latest flowers showing up. In the last two weeks I have filled 7 x 240L wheelie bins with stuff that should have been cut back in the Autumn. I am desperate for the bin men to take it all away on Thursday. I can refill them very quickly. I also need a wind free day so that I can spray all the Bishop weed. Digging it is getting beyond me and it just comes back again. I hope you enjoy good weather and the chance to sit in the sun.

too hot for me, just sat under the sun brolly and drank tea for most of the day did do a little watering though last night when the sun had gone down. We had our meals out in the garden too and watched the robins feeding their nest of young. Got up this morning and think the little robins have fledged as no sign of the parents feeding now. I must have been up too late to see them. lol. you would think they would wait for me to see them fly off - that's all the thanks I get for feeding them all year round not a single sighting today. lol I thought they might go yesterday in the sunshine but nope they waited for the damp morning before getting out of the nest. Ah well will wait for the second hatch of blackbirds maybe they will wait for me. lol

Olive its pouring down today and no signs of stopping, wish now I'd cut the grass instead of washing down my paintwork, I swear I can see it growing before my eyes, I am on tenterhooks here as the baby birds are leaving the nests and my cats are well aware of that, I saw a baby robin in the the willow tree and around the conifers yesterday but still don't know where the nest actually is, wondering if its amongst the ivy that straggles through our old hawthorn hedge, I can spend ages watching them collecting food for the young, they all work so hard don't they..

It is also pouring in North East Lincolnshire but the garden was in need of water.
Your garden looks lovely, especially the blue irises.

Thankyou Marjorie, they were here when we moved in over 43yrs ago, I have a gorgeous yellow and white that has miraculously appeared out of nowhere, typical I forgot to pop a photo on....

Problem is Sue, that for some reason, there are no electricity pints n the back part of our house.....it protrudes beyond the rest of the house and is just one storey with a pitched roof and velux Windows. So, no point to run the cable off!

10 May, 2016

Your garden is looking beautiful Sue ! and I'm pleased that you are able to work in it again ... :o)

I found paraffin far too expensive ages ago, and I can't get the electric heaters safely in my little leanto greenhouse. I've now resorted to bringing really tender plants/seedlings etc into my conservatory, which gets heated via the central heating in the house. As for the rest, the GH is bubble wrapped and the plants etc in there are covered in fleece, with my fingers firmly crossed. As for beans...my broad beans and my climbing beans are out and my peas...so if it drops too cold again?... ah, well ..sigh!
