Got up this morning after a very windy night and got quite a shock, hubby came in and asked, had I seen what happened in the garden….
Sorry they’ve gone on sideways but you get the gist I hope……….
My gardening angel must have been on duty last night, look how close that landed to my greenhouse, the foliage is my Boston Ivy and I guess by looking at the remains of the trunk which is 6ft long, it was all that was holding it in place, the bottom as you can see has rotted all through, Mother Nature has succeed where we never could, thank goodness it toppled sideways..
The ivy is still in situ, just a cleaning away session, now I have to think what to place there for it to grow back up again, don’t want to train it up the fence as I have enough problems with ivy and rubbish coming through from the other side as it is lol..Its all decisions at the moment but think you’ll agree I’m a lucky gardener today..

That's right Shirley, the thing is I trim the ivy back regularly and that trunk never seemed unsafe in the slightest, was a shock I don't mind admitting...

It certainly was lucky. Did you have a very windy night? Maybe a tall obelisk would host the Boston Ivy? Might not cling to metal though on second thoughts. Guess you could always make a wooden one or persuade someone else to make you one?

What a huge relief for you, and yet still a shock to discover!! Thank goodness the greenhouse is in tact .......not to mention you!!!
All is well :-)

Stera it was very windy but I never heard a thing, however Sherryl had to get up to let Westie Harriet out during the early hours, she never usually disturbs us during the night but guess she knew something untoward had happened.
I do have a spare obelisk that I'm s'posed to have a clematis growing up, was actually thinking of moving it over, some mesh to support the tendrils until they are established again should be okay I think, did ask hubby if he could make me a fancy wooden one , he is thinking about it, lol...

Yes W'rose I was very relieved to say the least, only thing lost is the autumn colour down that side for this year, I can live without that...

Hi Sue, yes you had a narrow escape there, it could have ended up being quite expensive for you, if it had been a couple of feet taller, Derek.

Thankyou Marjorie, I try not to work in the glass g'house when its really windy, I know it sounds daft but I scared myself in my younger days by watching a film where someone was killed in a glasshouse, lol...The thoughts of that trunk crashing down whilst I or any one of us or the pets was in it or nearby does my head in..

LOL, Sandra I have put the thought into his head, he's been on about cutting down a couple of the conifers that are near the bottom pond, they do look terrible, hardly any greenery down the bottom half, I've pointed out that they are multi trunks, would make lovely features in the garden, now I keep telling him to watch them swaying in the wind, cruel or what...

I think I would have been more concerned about clearing away the glass Derek, never mind the expense, I think it was divine intervention, I've talked about getting rid of one g'house, that nearly happening has brought me to my senses, lol...

Blimey Sue, that came close to being a disaster for the greenhouse! Thank goodness it fell where it did and that you weren't standing nearby ...
