My Rock Garden

My back garden faces south and is on 3 slightly different levels.
One level has this rock garden to the right side of it, i’ve planted low growing Alpine type plants that hug the stones or that sit upright in a small clump to a height of no more than 6" because anything higher doesn’t seem to look quite right there.
I like the plants to cover the rocks a bit and to fill the gaps between the rocks, it’s nice to have ‘cushions’ of plants and also good to have colour there too.

There is lighting in the garden and here you can see wires where i’d placed them to get an idea of positioning before setting them in permanently.
The lights are 3″×1.5″ ‘rocks’ and blend in with the stones and planting.

The photos also show the dry stone wall that’s behind the rockery, the plants can meander UP the wall too.
Spilling over the top of the wall are ground (or stone!) hugging Sedums, Lewisia and Aubretia.

Louise that is very nice
How many months of the year do you have flowers. I always found late summer was hardest until I added dwarf Bulbs.

Big 'thank yous' to you all :)
I just love Alpine plants and i try to make this area as well covered and coloured as i think it would be naturally.

Bjs, i know what you mean about year round colour being difficult, the 1st to flower is in March (Arabis & Silene) and
the plants in there that flower until late summer are the Erodium, Mimulus and Helianthemum, so about 7 or 8 months of colour.
I planted a mini Cyclamen last winter but i think it's gone :(
What dwarf bulbs did you plant ?

Thanks Bernie :)

Hywel, i didn't, it was made by the previous owner.
It houses frogs, spiders and bees and Millie & Maddie sit on the rockery stones and watch to see what's coming out next !!!
(I noticed that some of the bees who were on the Escallonia hedge flowers came into the wall .... i think i may have my own hive in there !!!!
The hedge is about 30' long and is E 'Crimson Spire', this plant produces masses and masses of flowers twice a year and the bees just flock to it, it's been alive with activity for weeks now)

What a lovely spot to sit, it must be great having it lit at night too. I wouldn't worry about a hive, they're probably solitary bees, there's about 250 species of these, you're providint perfect habitat for some of them.

also the Safron Crocus If you have a nice warm spot (it does not flower for me) Sept /Oct
You mentioned Cyclamen if you bought it in flower it may have been a Persicum Hybrid these are not all hardy ,You require the wild forms.Cyclamen Hederifolium Aug/Oct,
Cyclamen Intaminatum for years consiered tender is now growing in the garden in a sheltered position
Oct.(Note I am refering to the West of England)
