Well, too many hot toddies or not last night! My friend on a digger arrived bright and early (oh no, my head!)
Someone had run over my Salix so we used the stud digger to dig it up and move it from the driveway to a safer place…..and while your’e at it I said, there’s a few more shrubs that I overplanted in a bed to move too, and a honeysuckle in a large pot………….oh and that xmas tree and conifer and Weddingcake tree could do with holes dug too!!

Here is Millie Puss checkin’ out the digger!

Fingers crossed my Salix tree survives the move (and the bash by the car!) Behind the salix are two shrub Honeysuckle, early flowering, sweet smelling and lovey, tiny bright red berries in Autumn. Also moved and replanted a Philodelphus (SP?!)

This is the wee Conifer which I saved from it’s 9" pot 4 years ago. Poor thing has been dug up twice and has been in a pot for a year, finally, it’s found a home. Does anyone know how big this may grow?

Our very own Christmas tree! It was bought to go on my mosaic stall at Cheltenham and I knew it would not get watered enough if left in it’s pot, so now this has a home too!

And my collection of Cornus, love the red one, there’s a couple of ‘Westonbirt’ black ones and a large salix which has black cones in spring which turn hairy, is the only way to decribe it, white and fluffy, will take a pic when it does that next!

Oh dear, everything is such a mess, here is grass (rather a big clump) growing up through my Smoke tree, will have to deal with that

And would you believe it, a summer flower (very confused one!) Knautia, extraordinary?!

Now it’s time for the dogs! This is their favourite field, full of pheasants and hundreds of Skylarks, such an amazing sound, I wish I could bottle it and send it to you all!

First Crocus and lots of weeds………..

And one very large empty pot, any ideas lads and lasses?

And for those who may wonder why I had help with a digger, well, one, it’s fun, it’s quick and there are so many stones in this ground it would have taken me a week, hurt my back and made me swear alot! Hope the lawn recovers soon!
Hope the sun is shining where you are!!

Oh forgot at least two are girls...

you've a big garden there lulu. wonderful during the summer,

3 Feb, 2011

It is wonderful in summer, wish it really belonged to me, the amount of money I've put into it! Just can't help myself!! Lots of pics of it in summer in my profile pics!
And yes, Tetrarch, all pooches are girls.
Still not sure what to put in the pot, something REALLY pretty!!?

3 Feb, 2011

Daffs at the bottom, tulips up one flight and dahlias above them...early spring, late spring and summer to frost?

3 Feb, 2011

Thats a good idea Tetrarch!

Great idea to use the digger! Some lovely pics there Lulu and I bet you are really pleased to have achieved so much in one day!

Very pleased karensue, fingers x'ed they do ok having been moved.

dont blame you lulu i would chose the digger any day lol, great jobs done and not sure on conifer depends on which one but not doing bad after just 4 years, and your pot, spring bulbs ready potted and planted in there cause to late for bulbs, daffs, crocus anything spring like, or an evergreen so you have something all year :o))

3 Feb, 2011

True Sanbaz I hadnt thought of that..still Lulu, you could have some bright annuals in it for summer and do it later. Your conifer looks like an Italian Cypress. If it is, it stays fairly slender and you can give it a very gentle haircut into shape. They will grow to about 18ft but you can keep it short also.

3 Feb, 2011

I think it's an Italian Cypress too, rather like them meself! And bless it, it was so tiny when I first saw it, glad I saved it!

3 Feb, 2011

I like them too. Very elegant!

3 Feb, 2011

I'm glad you were able to move the tree. I hope it will settle into it's new home.
I love the field the dogs are running through - nice and flat :o)

3 Feb, 2011

it's got a huge incline on it, dogs dissappear easily! Lovely field though, I'm a bit sad it's being turned into a paddock!

3 Feb, 2011

Won't they still be able to run in it ?

3 Feb, 2011

Yes they will Hywel, but it will never be the same. Just hope the Larks still like it!

3 Feb, 2011

I hope so too :o)

3 Feb, 2011

Blasted wind, just when my poor salix didn't really need it, it's blown over a bit.

5 Feb, 2011

Oh no ! It isn't having much luck is it :o(
I hope it will be all right.

5 Feb, 2011

Hywel, I am so annoyed as someone was going to give me a hand with bringing some stakes down, didn't reckon on this wind though! Poor little tree, I hope it's tough!

5 Feb, 2011

Wow, what a huge area. I was interested to see your dogwoods as I have just purchased some (well, last October but bad weather stopped play and they are still sitting in their pots). I hope they will like my heavy clay soil and won't mind occasionally being flooded!

5 Feb, 2011

It is a huge area that comes with this cottage. The dogwoods are lovely, not sure about claysoil but Karensusan might know!
Right now recovering from flu and bad weather is putting a stop to play and the garden is such a mess. Last Oct-Dec art stopeed play for me. And I just know as soon as the weather improoves I will be spending time in other peoples gardens!!
