Beech tree splinter phase 2 or is it 3!

Another jaunt to the woods! This time without dogs and with the stud quad and trailer!
The poor Beech really has had it now! Most of it on the ground.
These are the two huge splinters I wanted to pick up for an impending garden sculpture!
This one I left, too big, I thought it an interesting shape though!
Now that’s my lot! Had to make a quick escape as the woodsmen returned, thank goodness the quad didn’t stall and none of the wood fell off the trailer! Heart a pounding (due to too much coffee really, I sped for home!
I stood underneath and saw the crack running through the rest of the tree.
Now to store them in the kennel!! Heavy work (for sore shoulders!)
Hope we don’t need to put SluggyPup in the dog house for a while while the wood seasons! At least I can get to the BBQ!
This is Sluggy wondering what on earth I was doing, I kept telling her off for being in the way. Then she stalked the cat who hissed at her and went and sat on the kennel roof!
Mum and daughter both watch from a safe distance!!
I Just hope that the wood seasons well so I can use it as ‘standing pillars’ in the garden.
If there is anyone out there reading this blog who knows how I should or could treat these beautiful shards of beechwood, I would be very greatful for any advice!!

Good lord, apparently I need to cook them!!! Steam them...I need pro advice. Varnish would not weather. My dad sent me pics of scortched wood like this set into the ground, looked very effective. Don't want to go through all this work and get it wrong!

Talk about a covert operation ... now have visions of you going at double speed in case you were seen! I can only suggest you either Google or visit the Library fo info. on the wood preparation. Love the pic of both dogs seated ... lol! : o )

Stop thief!! I would have pinched them too Lulu, how sad that poor tree has died though it looks pretty old. But you will put them to good use no doubt, how about 'yacht varnish' that should make them strong!

Just a thought on how we all see things differently ..... FIREWOOD! Every 3 or 4 years the council workers come round the local lanes with their chainsaws cutting back any 'threatening' trees or branches and leave the resulting debris lying in the undergrowth. It's never there for long! Our neighbour alerts Partner and they both rush up there with the small tractor and their chainsaws, then we all have wood for winter! :o) Our neighbour also wanders around the local area noting trees that are dead, dying or about to fall - then off we all go again!

I often see large pieces of fallen tree in our woods but never have the means of bringing it home. I tried collecting some thick ivy vines too but they were just too heavy to carry :( Good luck with your 'splinters', Lulu.

Chimera or Chimaera was, according to Greek mythology, a monstrous fire-breathing wood stealing female creature.
Chiminea = wood burner (burns best with stolen wood)
I know you can get natural oil stain which will alow it to breath or maybe go for a translucent sealant.

Way back I was living by the coast on the dole and had no heating in a huge rented room. It was winter and freezing. The saving grace was i had a fireplace so i used to go beach combing and take from the huge amounts of wood washed up daily. I would often be seen dragging huge bundles through town.
It burnt with a nice green salty glow, ah the good ol days.

How about a RUSTIC BENCH Lulu???
15 Jul, 2011
I was thinking more, sticking out of the ground like a sculpture, it would be one heck of a rustic bench!

Like standing stones, but in wood. Woodhenge
