Christmas in Exmoor

Something different this year! David and I took the pups and my folks to stay at The Crown Hotel, Exford. We had been before with the dogs earlier in the year so I could pick up some of the beautiful river washed Exmoor slate.
It is such a friendly hotel, fab food, they love dogs and you get to make friends with the other guests too! There were 16 full rooms and 10 dogs staying!

This is the hotel

They even gave the pups presents, choccy cigars!!

There was a REAL father Christmas in the form of my Dad!!

Some photos of the food….breakfast was yummy

a pate starter

and xmas pud!!

We had pressie opening time..

rest time

and playtime!

A couple of walking photos

And the artistic shot!!

We had a decent Boxingday walk along a very wet river valley, it rained everyday!

Hmmmm…Sluggy taking serious liberties!

Some of Sluggy’s friends!

we all had to fight for chairs!! There was a lovely lounge with a fireplace where we could sit after dinner. David and I broke the record for being up the latest after xmas dinner. As we ate at 5pm, by 9pm most people go for a rest promising to return…..a few didn’t. A quick snooze after watching Downton Abbey turns into a full kip!

This was a very silly party game called Electrocution roulette, I had heard the screams from next door in the bar and decided not to play!

A shot of the back of the hotel and the spiral stairs where I could get in a sneaky ciggy if and when needed!

It was a pretty village

Love this old fashioned sign post!

Dog walking was easy, just over the road. Went through goodness knows how many towels drying off muddy paws!

Atmospheric sheep photo! Glad to say that Sluggy took no notice of them!

Then on our way home, we took the Porlock route, a bit of a grey day.

The house at the bottom bend of Porlock hill with some interesting garden features.

A few beach shots. Not perfect for the girls, muddy and big pebbles

So I took myself off to the marshes where I had spied some swans

Which concludes our Christmas break made very special because my folks and our doggies could come too!

It is a wonderfully friendly and yummie foodie, doggie/people friendly hotel to stay in.
Am certainly rested just need the rest of the stones to go....haven't been able to drink even a glass of wine in the past few weeks, certainly kept the bar bill down! Did manage a few bloody mary's though!

Lulu Lovely pictures shall have to see if i can pay it a visit.
Were the dogs allowed in the lounge ?

6 Jan, 2012

They were indeed, just not the restaurant. You have the option to eat at the bar in the adjoining pub and doggies too. We had to eat in the restaurant because it was special Christmas meals and we left the dogs in our room. When I went to fetch them down the most terrible howling was going on with Pru and Sluggy!

Jazzy's paw all bandaged up, she is not allowed to run about too much so the stitches can heal properly. She is a bit bouncy, needs a good run!
