Functional art & new foal

Been a busy time in the studio, I thought it high time to create some more shelf space and to use up some of the spare mustard tins and Marmite jars that have been hanging about on the shelves for ages! They make excellent wooden spoon holders (the Marmite jars) or toothbrush/paste holders…and the mustard tins for teaspoons!
no.1
Time to get some colour in the Marmite jars. The old ones were slate or browns. So this is the greens and cream…
no.2 The blues..Sold a few minuits ago!
no.3 My personal favourite!
no.4 Millies personal favourite!
no.5 Without the cat!
no.6 When I use the mustard tins…it’s tempting to use red & yellow…that’s why I like the black & colourful one best, because I didn’t think I could find other colours which could match the very yellowness of the tin!
And here’s one am working on now………can you spot the wee mouse?
Now to the new babies! This is the filly born a few days ago, she’s very bold and gallops round the paddock like a wild thing! Nose to glove because it’s cold today..
With a beautiful blue sky..
And a twinkle in her eye!
These last two photos are of last nights foal. He is huge! And he’s staying indoors just for a day or two.
Now we can get some sleep at night…..until next month when there are five more babies due!

Functional art! I would have thought the abacus would feature in this range! or is that under production?
How much is the last mustard one going for?
foals : )

Love these mosaics Lulu, how about contacting Colman's Mustard at their Norwich shop and museum with pics of your unique mosaics? Also, Marmite has an official store ... just a thought! OH's idea actually, you can take the man out of retail, but you can't take retail out of the man ... lol!
Beautiful foal and filly pics... :o)

The mosiacs are lovely and the foals. I'm sure you can't afford to get too attached to either your art work or your babies. When you are in business it has to come first. I'm sure whoever ends up with any of them will be delighted.

Beautifully imaginative Lulu . . . I'd have bought No.2 no problem - just love those colours :)

Going to have to make another blue one now it's sold!
Sticki my friend said she wanted to buy it so I'll make her a slate garden fairy mosiac as her gift.
I only get attached to a real favourite like my owl mosaic and as for the foals, I just have to make sure I don't see them go if they are going for sale. The fillies are kept by the stud to race usually.
Marmite charge a fortune for a licence, that's why I take the labels off!!
Stevie...are you going to come over soon, you get a free teaspoon!

They are brilliant Lulu the colours go so well together I love what's going on with the last one !!! it's especially nice to see you using Colman's Mustard tins as they have always been such a big part of our history in our near by city of Norwich ( Norfolk ) I have several different ceramic mustard pots advertising the mustard ,we won't eat any other kind it's the best ! the foals are just gorgeous you will be able to settle down with a glass or two and have a good nights sleep before the next session :o))

Love these mosaics Lou, especially the marmite jars, think I like the high gloss of the glass! You have been working hard and isnt that foal a sweetie. :)

Love your work would look fab in the art gallery I work in. The foal is a sweetie.

I do like your mosaics they are great Lulu, it took me ages to find the little mouse in the one you are working on but that one is my favourite..
The foals are gorgeous but I`d be in bits getting to know them from babies and watching their progress then to lose them when the time came for them to move on.....

I saw a girl riding a horse this afternoon, and it must have had a fright because it was just going round in circles in the road.
The more it became frightened and turned round and round, the more the stupid girl kept hiting it on it's head with a stick.
I'm going to report the incident to the RSPCA !

I love the mosaics Lulu, I wish I was so creative :(
Hywel; If you know where the girl lives I would do just that. If not, look out for her again and warn her if she doesn't stop you'll report her. She doesn't sound fit to be on a horse.

Thanks all for your kind comments regarding my wacky creativity!
So stupid to hit a horse like that. Poor creature :(

I've repotred the incident to the RSPCA.

What beautiful babies , Lulu . I just love the pic of the one against the sky .
Very clever work with the Marmite jars and mustard tins , I tend to hoard these too , but only because I feel that they ought to have a further use . Have you found Maggi sauce bottles yet ? I'm sure that you could make something useful with those . I try and keep them for singular roses or sweet-peas .

You have done very well there, Lulu! I like your art work as well, you've made some nice functional pieces there!
There is an expression they use in Spain "Lo bello, si útil, dos veces más bello!" more or less 'Something beautiful, if useful, twice as beautiful!' It came to mind as I was looking at the photos of your work!

Not heard of a Maggi sauce bottle...will Google it!
Thanks Balcony, these are usually quite a success on the stall...love 'em or hate 'em!!

Beautiful horses Lulu. And your mosaics as well.

Thanks for sharing Lulu......your mosiacs are beautiful and the foal is gorgeous.

Thanks Klahanie and 6d. Feedback always so welcome.
Now for some warm weather....it's so cold at an English stall!!
5 Feb, 2013
Hywel, I hope you remembered to ask the girl for her name and address. RSPCA wouldnt help me at all when I reported starving horses tethered south of Perpignan seen from the coach. I hope they are out of their misery now.
