Slow learner .....?

I must be a slow learner, because I still don’t know (after joining 4 months ago) whether one posts photos onto just one place, ie with a blog does it just stay with the blog.?
Or if you want to, can you add it to your ‘pics’? Also do people just recommend photos of others for GoYpedia, or can they put their own forward for it? Hope that doesn’t sound like gobbledigook.
I should really have gone to my homepage and checked up on which of my pics are there before doing this. My brain doesn’t work very well in Winter!

Mad my brain does'nt work full stop, i put photos on my home page then when i write a blog i browse my photos on my home page to add to my blog.Think someone can explain it better than me for you :o))

Clarice, having seen you on Terratoonie's blog, I feel I know who I'm talking to!
Anyway you certainly don't look as though your brain doesn't work !! Anything technical is outside my comfort zone, which I suppose isn't unusual as we weren't brought up with technology .... you're not as old as me, nevertheless we weren't taught it at school. Well that's my excuse!

What bit i know about pc's i went back to school, for a few lessons than the homework they gave me my daughter was there to help me, that was a couple of years ago, up till then i did'nt have a clue about them, did'nt even know how to turn one on let alone use one. i only know the basic's but thats enough for me, afraid my head does'nt work where technology exist, i still do every thing the old way with pen and paper and phone. I know what i'm doing then, well just about :o))lol.

Have you ever thought what you did before having a computer,We can find absolutely anything we want to know.so Mad we have to be cleverer than we were before :0))

24 Jan, 2010

My children wanted me to go back to school Clarice to learn the basics, but the thought of that frightened the life out of me. I think it's more fun by trial and error. :0)) lol

Its was ok as everyone there was my age and over, so felt alright as we where all about as thick as each other, plus got to meet other people.

24 Jan, 2010

That's not so bad then, but I thought they would all be kids, and not thick like me. !!!!!!!!

I seem to remember if the photos just go into a blog they are not stored on the pages just on your computer files. if they are put in you plant profiles first then they stay on GoY and you can reuse them in a blog.

Thats what i thought, when i went to sign up i made one of my daughters come with me as i thought that, but i found out my age was doing mornings so i sign in for that, they where saying its evenings mostly when the young go.

Not sure whether you need more answers here, Mad...
..but when you write a blog, you have a choice of including photos from those you already have on GoY
[ from your home page photos ] or from those on your computer... If they are photographs from your computer, they will only show up on your blog, not on your photo page...

You cannot currently nominate your own photos for GoYpedia, but you can nominate the pics of other members.....

Does that help or do you need more explanation?
I hope this helps..Let me know. :o)

My blog of 26th October, 2009... What exactly is GoYpedia ?...
explains more about how to nominate pics. etc....

Thanks Tt, I'll try hard to remember. Oh yes, I will make a note of the date of this blog then I can go back if I forget. Only thing is, will I remember where I make the note?

24 Jan, 2010

Lol....
Ask again if you get puzzled by anything on GoY. :o) x

Oh,Mad and Clarice, you are two after my own heart, and know exactly how you feel.I am still not totally sure if i am doing it right where photo's are concerned, although eventually they do appear, but it takes absolutely ages.
I also joined a computer class a couple of years ago,for seniors, but our very first lesson was about ...cutting and pasting..and none of us knew how to turn a computer on !We all felt so incompetent, that after the 3rd class, everyone gave up.I just muddled on myself, with my laptop I had bought as a present, the reason I joined in the first place.
After a lot of help from my daughter, when she had time,I was determined to
learn,so I am much more confident now,and love it.
Tulsalady..You are so right, trial and error goes a long way..Did anyone else ever feel, like me,that you were going to either break it or do damage,if you pressed a wrong key? Probably not !Yes,it is fun trying things ...,a way of learning....
Tt,thank you for your advice on blogs, and pics,it seems there are a few of us
with the same problem...but,we WILL get there,as our generation are very resilient, and don't give in easily..some would say stubborn ,even..lol.Come on girls,we can do it:o)))

OMG ..cut and paste on the first lesson !

...it is so much better to teach anything step by step, right from early stages.. especially with computers...

Always ask if you aren't sure how to do something on GoY.
Okay to message me privately if you wish, and I'll reply as soon as I get the chance. :o) x

24 Jan, 2010

Tt,yes cut and paste...didn't even know what it was..no wonder we all packed it in,nothing like giving one confidence eh?I laugh about it now though. Thanks for your support, and i will PM you if needed..:o)))

24 Jan, 2010

cut and paste.... you probably thought you'd enrolled by mistake....in a DIY wall-papering class...Lol.

24 Jan, 2010

There's no need to make a note of the date of your blog Mad.If you go to 'blogs' on your homepage it will show all your blogs and an archive list also(with dates) :)

24 Jan, 2010

A blog stays a blog Mad but you can put the same pics on both your blog and your photos. You cannot nominate yourself Mad but hopefully even if its not nominated the editors will spot a good subject and select it anyway. If you put one pic on a blog it can be put on a Goy page for that topic but if you put more than one pic on a blog then the whole blog if chosen goes on as a blog (not as an individual pic).

Yes Bloomer I still think I can break/ damage/ delete things but my lads are great they allways give me a hand. I am a lot more confident and being on G oY has been a great help.In my area there are computer classes and they start from complete novices and progress on to more high tech stuff. Also being a parent helper at my sons school helped as I could watch and learn then at his computer classes.

24 Jan, 2010

Lol,Tt.I think the wallpapering class would have been easier.Thought as the class was run by the U3A ,(University of the 3rd age)for over 50's,it would have been the right choice!..me thinks not..ha ha.
Mavis,I agree with you,and GoY has been much more help. The helping at school is a great idea,I'm sure you learned a lot from all the clever young ones. Its almost second nature to them now.How lucky they are....

25 Jan, 2010

It is so natural to them they can do things in seconds that take me ages. They are lucky as it is the way forward.

25 Jan, 2010

Blimey Bloomer when i first went to learn they shown us how to turn it on and then got us playing a card game to get the feel of the mouse, i did 5 lessons on just learning about a pc, then i did another 5 lessons on level one of the internet, could have gone on another 2 courses that was level 3 and level 5, but after i new the basic of the internet, my daughter learns me and she just shows me one thing at a time and wont show me any thing else till i can do it right, she knows i'm a slow learner, but i get there in the end. The classes i went to was run by the council.

Well thanks for all the help and all the comments. I'm glad that I'm not alone in being just a little slow, well not slow eh girls? We are so new to it. I must say that GoY has been a good learning experience and has given me a reason to use the laptop quite often. My grandchildren have been helpful and some of my children too, but practice is good. Cut and Paste !!! I don't want to know yet. I can drag and place (if thats what you say).
I got my first ever computer last June at the age of 74, so now I'm feeling a little better than at first, but computer language is just gobbledegook to me.

25 Jan, 2010

LOL it's 2yrs since i first went and my daughter only shown me how to cut and paste just before xmas, so she wont do nothing with me till i can do it proper.

25 Jan, 2010

Well, girls,it has given us a topic in common to talk and smile about,anyway..so thats good...as long as we can type, and join in,thats all that matters really...and most importantly..enjoy :o)))

25 Jan, 2010

With you on that Bloomer :o)))
