What Have I done?

Gazing out over a bleak looking garden in early March, I was overcome with a touch of madness, something like hares experience at this time. So armed with fork and spade out I went and dug out not one but two entire borders leaving only some Butterfly bushes, a golden hop, poppy and viburnum. I took out everything that sulked last summer and everything that enjoyed their patch too much. A few bits were replanted around my plot or given away. Then there was a trip to my local nursery, followed by a sharp intake of breath at the checkout then back to the garden to plant up my new babies.
Now the cold winds have returned and I sit indoors worrying that this was a bit impetuous of me. After all, hardy geraniums are so easy and maybe that browbeaten canna lily would have perked up? Whats done is done. I only hope come summer I will have something to show on GOY.

Milky, I hope you are right. Looking through everyones lovely photos I have lots of new ideas. I hate bare earth at the hight of summer. Will get out there with packets of nigella seed. Thanks

It sounds a brave and exciting thing to do, and such a lot to look forward to in a few months, once they're established I bet you'll be really pleased.........:o)

I hope your plants survive. If they were outside in the nursery they should be all right I think.

They are all hardy perennials so should be ok. everything in my garden has to be a good "doer". The good thing is Ive now got a bit of space for new things I havnt tried before. I have a hankering for some more English roses-just got time to get them in I think. Thanks for the positive comments, they have cheered me up

I must admit, that any new plants I've bought have gone into my cold frame as the weather has been so changeable and we're forecast another frost here in Essex tonight. Still, let's hope your plants will be ok. They quite often surprise us. I've got 2 Delphiniums and a Polemonium that I thought I'd killed with Growmore last year but they are growing back again this spring.

I know I should probably have waited a bit for the weather to improve but with work and family I have to take any opportunity that arises to work in the garden. Some sweet williams are sulking but an aconitum and the catmints have put on inches in just a week. Not so green, fingers crossed!

Perhaps there will be a plant sale or a jumble sale nearby soon, where you can offer potted bits for sale or to give away. We got almost all our plants from friends' gardens and local gardening club plant sales. For now, enjoy the abundance!
