Now, what a day. Me thinking the highlight was going to be seeing my other 2 grandchildren, and seeing my daughters Wedding Dress..{and pay for it …..big gulp}……… It didnt even get to 9am before the excitement started…. We had a visitor land on the fence the other side of our next door neighbour

This cheeky Heron had spotted their pond, but I dont think he was quite sure how to get at it. So he started making his way along the fence towards the patio, and nearly stumbled accros the Vibernum…ooops.

He safetly got himself on to the patio wall and stood surveying the terrain to plan his course of action

He stood for a long time listening and looking all around him, and he was about to step down onto the rocks that lead off the patio, and Joan..opened the back door. There was a flurry of flapping wings and off he flew

Round in a huge circle……….What a brilliant start to the day……..

Brilliant photographs - how lovely to see this beautiful bird close up. Glad he didn't help himself to the fish though - I wonder if he will return to try again?

They'll soon empty a fish pond but they usually hunt at first light, I believe, having said that we have one on our pond most days, one day I had 4 of them, was like Jurassic Park when they took off.

Wonderful set of photos of a fascinating, pesky bird - thought I'd lost all my fish to one of these but glad to find three left this spring.

fantastic photos and they rarely land on fences or walls. they prefer to walk in to water from the flat. We often see then flying overhead but never seen them in the garden.

I was probably about 30 ft away in an upstairs window, and its tha camera to thank........but I am very pleased with the photos.............They are very skittish birds and 1 slight movement will send the flying off..........
