Playing Hooky

It was such a lovely day here that I decided to pay hooky for a couple of hours and B and I went off to a well known nature spot on the Findhorn River – Randolph’s Leap. So nothing to do with growing by the moon, simply a lot of photos…
The river is funneled through a narrow gorge here and has carved amazing patterns in the Gneiss bedrock here
The trees are primarily a mix of birch, beech and conifers, many of which have been in place for hundred for years.
The brown tinge to the water is due to it flowing through peat higher up the river.
It is difficult to get far enough away from the trees to actually get a good photo of them as the path is narrow with a steep drop
This Cep (Penny Bun) looked splendid, I was very tempted to pick as they taste wonderful!
Whilst this little fungi would not be good to eat
A more tranquil area of the river
The spot where legend has it Alisdair, not Randolph, leap from one bank of the Findhorn to the other to escape the wrath of Randolph Duke of Moray… so why isn’t it called Alisdair’s Leap I wonder?

Ooohhh, Mookins! I can't believe you just said that!
Moongrower, what fabulous scenery you have so close to you - I can see the advantages of living up there!
Our scenery is much gentler with rounded hills, so different - but also beautiful! Thanks for taking time out and sharing yours with us. :-)

Oh that you could expand the pictures to full screen size. The patterns caused by the folds in the rocks are just amazing.
