Can't Waste Such A Lovely Day!

Yesterday was a beautiful day – sunny, not a cloud in the sky – but crisp and frosty. Couldn’t waste that, could we? So, after clearing out and re-setting the log fire and making coffee and a tortilla for a picnic, off we went for a walk up one of the local mountains that we refer to as ‘Purple Top’ as it’s covered with heather – obviously not in bloom at the moment.

We started the walk with chilly snow-capped mountains in sight, but we knew we wouldn’t be getting near snow as our walk would only take us 1,250 m asl.

Despite the warm sunshine we found many little pockets of frost where the sun hadn’t yet reached.

As usual, it was a hard slog for most of the way – only the occasional flat section of track, but the views made it worthwhile. Brrrrr! Look at that frosty meadow!

Even though we’d done this walk before, we somehow managed to take the wrong track – the one that only leads up to a radio mast! So we had to back-track and find the right track!

Nearly there:

Finally we stood on its summit – looking around at the 360 degree view:

North, West, South, East:

From this vantage point we could see the summit of the climb we did several weeks ago – Picu Jano – that’s the green lump in the centre of the picture:

Apart from the heather, there weren’t many other plants up there, but we did see this tiny succulent plant – a miniature version of a kind of Sempervivum? To put it in perspective, the flat stone next to it is only 1" square.

After the very welcoming hot coffee and tortilla we rested our acheing backs and waved the planes on their way – “Safe journey!”

Then – as is always the way – after 2.1/2 hours to get up, only 1 hour to get down! Light the fire, have a shower, open the wine ……. Aaaaaaaah!
