After Days of Rain and Cold ...

We’d had some lovely weather here and were able to work in the garden in T-shirts, then suddenly we had a mini-winter! Temperatures plummeted from 20C down to 6C, we had the fire alight all day again instead of just in the evenings, and needed the central heating as well! We even woke up to more snow one morning! Then, yesterday, the weather seemed to get itself on track again with warmer temperatures and bright sunshine so we went for a short local walk to see what was happening on the mountain.
The hellebores were still blooming amongst carpets of Travellers’ Joy seed heads.
The fresh snow on the high peaks looked soooo cold …..
http://media.growsonyou.com/photos/blog_photo/image/5467/main/Picture_009.jpg!
but the cold blast hadn’t affected the blossom on the cherry trees at the top of the village
We found a patch of bright blue gentian ….
The first tentative flowers of Bugle …
and a patch of sunny buttercups.
Further on the alyssum was blooming
then we found this section of rocky cliff with beautiful little pillows of moss.
In a meadow we found some of the first orchids
then walked along the road to see the bank of Cowslips.
Beautiful!
We finished the walk by crossing the meadow above our garden and found this little chap sunning himself.
We felt ten times better after a walk in the sunshine with such lovely sights. Back to the casa for a lunch of tortilla! Hope you all enjoyed the walk as much as we did.

I suppose the weather is so changeable due to the height of the mountains and the wind direction?
Lovely blog and photos, thank you.

Where we lived in Central Spain there are two river valleys that converge in the city. They both have wonderful valleys called "Hoces" ; one, the Hoz del HĂșecar, is at its most stunning during spring & early summer.
I went for walks out there on my own sometimes just to see the beautiful flowers in the spring!

Lovely pictures from North Spain.
I missed out on that region, as arriving at Vigo in February, my first thought was to get south beyond the snow line. Eventually the heat of summer drove me up the east coast to Blanes, but there my time ran out.

A wonderful walk, Nariz. Living in the Picos in the spring must be great.
