Growing Dahlia Obsession

Eeeek….I have new babies !

I have picked up the two most beautiful dahlias today.

Let me introduce you to my Striped Vulcan. Literally caught my eye in the plant sale and I flew across to get him as he was the last one there. Now he will be snuggled up with my dahlia family and we are very happy to have him.

My second new addition is this delicate White Perfection. Also the last one on the stand and he was lonely so came home with me…I had to sneak him round the back as Mr NewAtThis hadn’t left for his weekend away just yet !

Now I have promised myself that if I get my boring indoor chores done I can spend the afternoon in the garden and reward myself with a cheeky sunset hot tub !

Loving this weekend

They are beauties. I love them but gave up because no matter what I did they got eaten to the ground.

The white one is fabulous, and what a splendid photo with the light of the sky behind it. I gave up on them too. It seems to be snail heaven round here and they can ruin one totally overnight. Dahlias and lupins seem to be snail favourites. Its really good to hear that yours are doing so well.

Trust me to pick something that will get eaten alive ! I have been really luck this year. Mum gave me a of putting crushed egg shell round the base and I have done that ever since. Thank you Steragram. I do love a bit of photography :) Just the hoovering to do then I can find them a new home !

New at this: Watch out for ear wigs. They loved the dahlias an Uncle grew when I was a child. He had a big garden and grew dahlias from the smallest pompoms to the very large dish-like ones.....and the earwigs slept in them all!

Beautiful :)

Earwigs, slugs and snails ! I'm not sure if I'm growing plants or throwing an Ugly Bug Ball :)

I am so hoping I get a break from the bugs and cam enjoys the flowers. They really are beautiful.

Thank you :)

I've grown them for years now NAT and have to divide them each year. I winter them in the greenhouse or garage with no water then in March the green tips appear and I repot them in new soil. I have them all over the garden but I do put slug pellets in the pots.

They are just such a splash of colour and the petal formation is beautifu! :)

Yeah...I have to use pellets in my pots of Dahlias too. The top one would look great with my Anika NAT. :) Your day is going to be wonderful with that afternoon in the garden and ending with a hot tub soak. We have cold and rain here. I've just put the heating off after warming up the house a bit. Trouble with a stone house is its always cold. In the summer it is often colder in than out! And its definitely not warm out today! I did manage to get out this morning to feed and water all the pots.

Your Anika is fab. I have had a lovely morning pottering in the garden. I have tidied and sorted the beds. I am looking forward to my family coming home but have taken inspiration from Hywels latest fuchsia and died my hair pink! :)

Hope your family still recognise you!

I'm a sucker for dahlias, it's the cactus ones I can't resist especially if they are orange, but each year after a wonderful display I lose them. I keep hoping that the winter will be mild & they'll survive. East Anglia is supposed to be the dry region.
I have tried overwintering the tubers in the shed but they have rotted.
I hope you get to keep yours safely, NAT.

They are stunning :) I have a peachy one in my garden but I have no idea what it's called

Gorgeous Dahlias, I especially love the white one.

I love all kinds of dahlias but can't seem to get them through winter :-(. I've overwintered them in the garage but there's only been one year they haven't rotted. Think I may bring them in the house this year.
