A visit I have always wanted to do. Hubbard Hills in Louth, Lincolnshire.

Today I drove my youngest to Louth (she was on a course) and I wanted to visit a garden centre and spend my birthday vouchers so I decided to make a day trip of it.

I have always wanted to visit Hubbards Hills but never ever got around to it, so today after going to the GC made myself find it and walk round it. It was a lovely day, mild but dull just right for taking a leisurely walk and just snap the colours that were around and about.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I parked the car outside someones garden this is the photo of the trees in this garden, what a colour!

Walked down the road to the park and found some deer, which were totally unexpected, and this little darling posed for me!

These trees were in the first part of the park, spectacular colours.

This is an oak leaf carved out of wood, I presume the base of the old oak tree is what it is attached to.

I then started down the hill to the start proper of Hubbards Hills:

I hadn’t realised at the start of this part there was a car park, if only the information had said there was a car park it would have saved my legs having to climb back up the slope when I was flagging on my way back.

I had a very nice walk and hope you enjoyed my visit with me, I will post another blog when I have planted up the new pots with the birthday treats I purchased before I went off on my little adventure.

A lovely walk...and a dry one by the look of the photos, Oliveoil. You've had quite a day of it with a trip to the GC as well :)

That is one huge carved oak leaf...I wonder if it is a result of the storm damage of a few years ago? A nice way to preserve the wood.

I've been in the house for the last 2 days so I'm really appreciating all the fall photos...it's a beautiful season :)

That looks a really lovely walk Mum. I think you got there just in time for the colours, I got up this morning and just about every leaf of my acer was on the ground after the winds during the night! I consoled myself by going to the Danish Xmas Fayre and then making a start on the shady winter garden....lovely! Worked so hard I think I may have burned the calories from the Danish Pastry!!

I really enjoyed your walk , I don`t care where in the world you go there is nothing quite like the changing and spectacular colours clothing our trees here at home. Your number 7 photo is a wonderful example of what I mean.
Glad you enjoyed your day, and for sharing it with us.

That's a nice place to visit. I'm pleased you found it and showed the photos. The trees are a fantastic colour. Lovely to crunch your way through the leaves at this time of year :o)

Thank you everyone, it was a lovely walk and yep I kicked leaves all over the place, they were very crisp and very very pretty. I am pleased I made the effort, something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl and used to go past this place to visit the seaside. Much more interesting than going to Skegness I must admit. It was a toss up between driving off to the coast to see if the seals had started to pup or do this walk, the walk won. I can visit the seals later on in the year. Thanks again for your comments. Pleased you ticked off one of your things to do, looks a very quiet place, lovely, and belated Birthday Wishes Barbara x Di

Thanks Diane, it was quite a well used walk, there was a group of special needs adults with their carers enjoying the colours and open areas, thought how lucky they were to be able to take them visiting such a great spot, without a lot of uneven paths, they were thoroughly enjoying their day out. Thank you for the birthday wishes, think I am getting too old to celebrate, have told the family I am on reverse mode now, not going up anymore just coming down in years. lol, that will confuse them they will never remember how old I am now. lol.

Too right, keep them guessing, the only trouble is I'm getting to where I can't remember how old I am! lol There's no hope for me....

What a lovely walk you had. Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Those tree roots in your last photo are amazing and I loved the pic of the old wringer washer. :oD

Yes that old mangle is amazing isn't it it was outside the white cottage at the start of my walk.

Can you imagine doing a weeks worth of washing in that?? LOL

Now Gilli, I am going to show my age! When many years ago I got married, that was what I washed the clothes in, well a tub and dollypegs were used and the mangle to get the water out of the clothes . lol. Now I am only 21 so you might have to keep guessing for a while, I will give you a clue, this is the second time around for me being 21 lol. I washed nappies and all the baby clothes in it, I wasn't fat then, maybe I should get another one. lol. It took nearly all day to do the washing we didn't have hot water either or a bathtub, lol, now I am thankful for all the mod cons I have, and they are not that many just enough to make life simpler. Life has changed hasn't it? and for the better. Some of the kids today don't know and I wouldn't want them to know, how difficult it was back in the OLD OLD DAYS. LOL. Now I sound really really old. I am just a spring chicken really.

My goodness OO....No bathtub? I could make do without all the rest but the bathtub? Not a chance.
My Grandma and my Mum both had wringer washers when I was still living in England....although they were both electric ones. I wouldn't fancy having to hand scrub the washing on the washboard.
You're only as old as you feel OO. Trouble is, some days I feel 92!

When I was very young and living on Bowen Island we didn't have electricity or running water. We had an outhouse and my mom used an old (green in colour) gas washing machine that she would put on the porch at the back of the house as it belched out horrible blue smoke! choke, gasp! We used a portable tub for bathing.

Even when we moved to the city we had a toilet and running water but no bathtub at first. We had a tin bath that was brought into the kitchen, filled with water and we all took our turn. I was so relieved when we finally got running water on Bowen (we had 2 wells, dug by my dad and the water was so good, clear and tasty) and eventually got a bathtub in both properties.

It seems as if I'm describing the dark ages. Oh yes, and we had cole oil lamps with mantels that either sat on tables or hung from the ceiling....and this was all taking place in the early to mid 1950's.

Yes those were the days, but glad I am no longer there though, like my home comforts too much, such as they are, didn't have a garden then, just a back yard, very very basic living accommodation, still do not have central heating but have a lot more than we had in those days.
