Rudbekias some of my favourite plants!

I love the colour which these plants give at this time of the year.

This one is about 7ft tall, sorry no idea which one it is but it is the tallest one I have.

Rudbekia Goldsturm

Again no label but it is about 4ft tall and such a dainty flower.

This one I bought last year, it said it was hardy and it certainly was. It is called Little Gold Star and it certainly is – only about 9inches tall, great at the front of the border.

This Rudbekia, was definitely not planted here it was supposed to be in the middle of the border but it has made its way out to the edge. Unfortunately yet again no label. The flowers are smaller than Goldsturm more flower heads on the stem and they measure about 2 inches per flower, a lovely rudbekia.

They are so worth their place in the borders for colour later on in the year. Hope you like them as much as I do. Anyone with any names for those (I know it is most of them lol ) without names please let me know. Enjoy your autumn gardens everyone. :O)

Yup, that tall one is the same as ours at the castle. It's gorgeous. I love the lemony yellow.

I agree, Rudbeckias really brighten up the garden at this time of year and seem to flower for ages. You have a nice selection.

They lift the heart don't they?

they certainly do Stera :O) good weather today too. Sun is shining and lovely and warm in the garden, all helping to keep the work going, borders are being tidied out and things are being kept on top of (for a change) lol

No sunshine here today. We had a warm morning, bit it's got colder and greyer as the days gone on. Autumn is definitely upon us...but then it arrived in August as it does every year. Still, not complaining......four weeks on Thursday I'll be in my new house! :)) can't wait!! We've just booked a removal firm to shift the house contents, and a self drive for the plants. Now, where did I put that weight lifting belt again. ;)

Beautiful - just right for this time of year. The weather's lovely here, too. I've been doing some much-needed cutting back - ivy, wisteria (how it romps!) etc. The goldenrod is ablaze, and the tuberous begonias are spectacular. Gorgeous!

oLvely to see them this time of the year just as the summer plants are starting to fade;0)

Only four weeks before you get your hands on that garden then Karen lol :O) Stretches before you start that will help the back.

Thank you Melchi, my golden rod has gone over now, too much sunshine for it. We are short of rainfall here too. Cannot have it all I suppose.

Thanks Pansy, yes they are so colourful for the time of year. Great plants. :O)

I love them too. The tall one could be R. herbstonne. I have had it for years but lost it this year.
I have grown R hirta 'Cherry Brandy' this year and I am delighted with it. though not yellow of course.

They're all so lovely...Could it be 'Autumn Sun'?.:>)

Hi Seaburngirl, yes I saw a picture of your Cherry Brandy, love it, but those red ones are not hardy so I do not put them in the garden. I try to put just hardy ones in as it is such a big garden now and I do not need to keep replanting. lol. but I have always loved those cheery red and darker ones. Thank you for looking in. :O) Think that name rings a bell for me thank you for the name. Karen also wanted a name as they have it in the garden at Glamis castle and she would like to know
what it is called. Thank you.

Thanks Moti, which one is it your think is Autumn Sun, sorry there are that many without names. lol. Me and labels do not mix. Well I do try but they get blown away and I can never remember names of many of the plants. These days I remember and then forget, old age has its moments. lol. especially with plant names. I even muddle the varieties up. lol. quite funny at times even if a little frustrating. lol. :O)

Rudbeckia..I've discovered them for the first time this year. I've got Rudbeckia Marmalade and its glorious colour is so cheery on these dull days. Like yourself, Olive, I think I maybe introducing more in the future, although I'm not sure about having room for one 7ft tall lol!

The cherry brandy has been hardy in a friends garden for 2 years here in East Yorks. As its R hirta it should be . So fingers crossed.

oh thanks for that Seaburngirl, good to know, shall have to look out for that one now then. :O)

Waddy is R. Marmalade hardy please? I can see another purchase coming on here lol :O) just when I thought I had finished buying plants lol :O)

Hi Olive, yes as far as I know, although as I've only planted it this year, it has yet to go through winter, so I've got my fingers crossed. :)

Hi me again just been out to the garage to take a look at the seed packet for Marmalade..They were a freebie from Garden News, but are Mr Fothergills. According to the blurb;
. A half hardy perennial, best grow as a half hardy annual.
. Large shimmering, very weather tolerant flowers.
. Versatile plant for large pots, boarders or for cutting.

I have some seeds left, so if you would like them, PM me with your details and I'll post them on to you ;)

thank you Waddy for your kind offer but if it is not fully hardy then I shall not trouble you for the seed, but you are so kind to offer thank you so much. I have stopped putting anything in the garden now which is not fully hardy as I hate having to replant things. The only thing I have in the garden at the minute which is not hardy is three or four of the annual geraniums (pelargoniums) - just because of their colour at this time of year. I am a lazy gardener really and do not take cuttings from them either so lose them each year and replace with something similar coloured each summer. After saying that I have got a couple of cuttings going, one from buddleija and one from an hydrangea, but not really cuttings as they snapped off and I thought I should try to grow them on. Strangely enough (for me) they have grown. lol. :O) Going to pass them on to one of my daughters for her garden. Thanks again for your kind offer :O)

No Problem..I'll probably sow them myself next spring, if the others don't survive. :)

26 Sep, 2013

Good thinking :O)
