our little bit of thanet

we started thinking of sorting out our garden last year (2008).first we had to decide what we were going to do as neither of us had much knowledge of gardening.it was decided that we needed a design to our garden as at the minute it looked like a building site, there was no grass at all and not much chance of growing any (unless we dug up all the buried rubble lol)we decided to use railway sleepers to do the sections for the layout (15 of them) this was a lot of fun and they were very heavy and ped kept changing his mind for the design so we would lug them across the garden then back again lol.finally he was happy with the layout.this all started march 2009
then it was time for the center section we decided on 10mm shingle for this area.this area took 6 cubic metres.

we have made slight changes since the above photo.the day the shingle arrived it was all hands to the deck with two wheel barrows it was like a conveyer belt one out one in and me raking it in to place (think i got the easy job :) )
after this came the top area this already had some wood bark down so all we needed to do was add to this to fill in any gaps that had appeared from the birds borrowing it lol.this area had the only plant in the garden our blue bush which we now know is called ceanothus(thanks to this site)

the ceanothus bloomed for about 2 weeks in may and was covered in butterflies and bee’s.

next blog will be OUR DECKING ……………

What a lot of really hard work! But the resulting photo shows that it was all worth it!

Your Ceonothus must look fab when in flower. There are a few old bushes like that around the town where I live & they are really fantastic when in flower & the bees love the.!
