Front Beds

Front Beds

Sunny afternoon with open african daisies and the sun shining on the mesembreanthemum. I have been loving them though daisy alone in a flower box is a little bare.

The Daisies look really good. I must say you surprise me with the variety of plants you can grow in Alaska!

Me too Balcony but then GTs explanation of those long summer days explains it seems to be all or nothing such diversity hard to fathom ..

Thank you all for the wonderful comments! The osteospermum is very successful here, these were just little plugs in a six pack second week of June! I don't see them often as they open while I'm away at work.

Haven't seen you for a while Catfinch, hello! :-) It is full autumn now, most of the trees have changed and the lanes are lined with the golden birch leaves. The temperature is holding between 40 -70 F for now, warm for this time of year.

You got it there Bonkers. Plus the all day sun is in the green and yellow spectrum because of the thickness of the atmosphere with the sun at such an angle, so most any plant can enjoy heavy green growth from the sun most of the day. Gives a boost that isn't found in lower latitudes.

I had not relaized this about the angle of the sun GT..that is interesting to know...I thought there was just such magnificent soil there ...The sunlight does play such a huge role in the growth..do you get summer rain there as well?

We get some rain, prob an average 10 inch per year, like a semi arid place. We've a good loamy soil though the ground is too cold for a lot of things. I'd say the sunlight has a huge effect. Blooming stimulation is more a red and blue spectrum, thats why some of our bloomers look different. The green is more developed than in other places. We don't get those intense middays.
