Madrona Trees for TT

TT..I went out yesterday on a walk with my dogs and took these pictures of the Madrona's in my neighborhood..then used Di's advice and downloaded Picasa for this wonderful ability to turn it into a collage..~Cat

Thanks all..I love these trees and their color so much..I have used the colors in my house. I call the colors Madrona... :o) ..it is very warm over what it used to be..which was white, gray or gray blue. Oh and I do love Picasa. Di mentioned the site to get it at on her collage for Halloween...which I downloaded for free..it took care of any issues for sending to GOY as well..for a free download..it is great and it worked fine with XP.

Thanks Arlene..I will never forget first being a single mom (over 20 years ago now) on a frosty cold morning in a new town and so alone..I heard bird song so loud outside my house..could not figure it out..had not heard so much all at once before..I opened my door that was off my living/lounge area and the song was amazing..I know starlings can be such pests..(there were none in southern Washington State where I had moved from).but they were in a very large berry filled Madrona outside my home, it was so beautiful in the sunlight with the birds flitting and calling in it... I left the door open and built a huge fire in the fireplace so I could turn off any electric heat ..I sat in front of the fire and listened to those birds until they left..it was such a warming thing for my heart as well as my body...and such a pleasant memory.. I still enjoy Madrona trees and Starlings in the trees as they gather and swoop .....and I do not care one wit that Starlings are messy or pests...they do their part in the scheme of things.. they gave me joy when nothing else was able to and still do. :o)

~ I really feel for your situation back then Caroline but am happy that you can look back and recall this natural happening which cheered you with nostalgia. I think the Madrona tree is so beautiful and I do love cheeky starlings and their aerial exhibitions before they roost for the night are fantastic.
I will have to see that for myself~ maybe when Caz gets back from NZ she might take me~

Thats a beautiful collage Catfinch, lovely trees and a lovely heartwarming story about the Starlings, they used to be hundreds round about us now we hardly see any :(, lots of birds not as numerous as used to be another one is the common house sparrow used to have loads of them they nested in my neighbours wall where a pipe entered the house there was a gap round the hole and they nested in there i used to watch them coming and going to their nest from my landing window not seen any for a few years now.

Thank you SK...I love having the chance to see any birds...they all mesmorize me terribly..lol...but as Arlene mentioned the arial displays of the Starling at close of day is worth buying a ticket for sometimes!!! and we get it for free!....lol...maybe the food source has changed around your home..it seems to do it on it's own somehow sometimes...

Cat, Jason has several Madrona on his property in Oregon. They are beautiful and colorful. As for the starlings, they never cease to amaze me swirling and swooping in huge flocks like herring. I prefer that they stay in the distance, they can empty my feeders in about a half hour, such gluttons!

Yes Madrone does grow in southern Oregon and Coastal Califonia..I thought they were a different species than the Madrona's here...I was told that by someone..hmmmm? but after researching have found that they are a Coastal Madrona like ours here..I'll be darned..they say they like a dry climate..so it is something that it grows on the same peninsula with the rain forest..lol..we do have many micro climates here it seems...
oh boy do I know that too about he feeders..lol..but they have trouble with mine so end up on the ground more than the feeders eating seeds the other birds have scattered......they are piglets that is true.....lol

I saw this pic on Terratoonie's blog about plants that you Love~ I think I Love this tree!! I have never seen such a thing and really think it's quite beautiful. I have nine barks (Coppertina) on my property and love the color and exfoliating habit. Thanks for your picture and explanation of it- the collage is just striking! Lisa58

Are these the same trees we have in B.C. that we call Arbutus trees? They look very similar.

Very well could be the same, need to look that up to say for sure.. I believe there may be some variations of the species..
