Abutilon (Abutilon)

This is almost the first plant to flower and one of the last , flowering continuously through the year ..
It will need some protection from the frost .......

Ar'nt they pretty, I have this yet never knew it needed protection, I have had it now for quite a few years, might be because I have it in a corner next to the wall of my house. Thanks for the info

I think they are hardier once they have become established Morgana , mine is still young ,this will be it's second year ,,, I should think that yours has proved hardy enough after all this time .... maybe I will dare to leave mine unprotected next year ...... :o)

Amy - check out my blog 'Good Things Come In Threes'. My abutilon got cut almost to the ground last winter but has come back strongly again. It is tied to a south-facing trellis but gets no protection and flowers right through the winter

Hi Andrew and Amy when I first bought mine the instructions said cut back each year, mine always grows back better.

Morgana - I just trim mine to fill the space and cut out any shoots growing away from, or backwards through, the trellis. It was just getting to the stage where it needed a good cutting back when the weather did it for me

I will try that this spring then thank you Andrew, I have mine growing with a climbing rose on an oblisk for support.

Don't blame you I feel the same about the passifloras I bought this year as they are different type to the hardier ones, so I am unsure on what to do, when I have them bought into the house.
