Nice specimen Dawn, and recently renamed Xanthocyparis nootkatensis 'Pendula', although the original Chamaecyparis name is still often used... just a bit of additional info :0)

lol blue... :o))

Typical of wanting a tree to weep instead of being draped . lol

21 Nov, 2009

Got a point there Morgana, but nevertheless, conifers weep and don't drape :0)

I like the tree but would never have one as I could never get that lexicon around my tonsils.

beautiful colour and shape.

Thanks everyone, glad you like it. Thanks for the new name info Bluespruce.
I have another tree you will like but when I tell you the name, you'll know its not worth posting a photo until Spring - Picea orientalis 'Aurea'.

22 Nov, 2009

Absolutely Dawn, and a cracking conifer it is, if like you, you have the room to let it develop.

22 Nov, 2009

I think they're breathtaking BlueS. I would love a Dawn Redwood too but I think that's pushing it a bit.

22 Nov, 2009

Well Dawn, you're in luck!, because in recent years there have been several new cultivars introduced that have different characteristics and are slower growing than the straight species.

22 Nov, 2009

That's good news BlueS - if you hear of any names can you please let me know. Just as long as they have those lovely spongy trunks - you'll know what I mean.

22 Nov, 2009

Not too sure you're be around long enough to see the spongy trunks Dawn :0)
But one I would highly recommend is Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Miss Grace' - slower growing, and narrower than the species, about 30-50cms per year, lovely blue-green feathery foliage with a beautiful weeping habit, and very good autumn colour.

Sounds lovely - thanks you so much - I'll put it on my wish list.

A spectacular conifer Dawn........just love it!
