Sorry Sandra it was me ..but Jane thanks you for your good wishes and hopes youre on the mend too..

Thanks Toto like you with your insects rather than try to exclude certain ones just try and accomodate or minimize effect. We live under a rookery that would drive some people nuts but generations been there for hundreds of years .

Very intelligent birds that others dont see as a threat .

That time of year Gee but those roosting displays are fantastic so think they earn their food ... or perhaps wheres the chef Amy ?

thanx ray, thought with the pic being feeding birds it was jane, anyway glad she is ok:o))

24 Nov, 2009

Good picture Ray, must try this method to try and discourage the pigeons from eating all the nuts I put out for the little birds.

Lovely pic BB. I've not seen a roosting display, apart from on TV and it must be a sight to behold. I get daily visits in my garden as well and you hear them before you see them ! lol :~))

Well captured looks like charge of the life brigade

It is usually Sandra took this at week end and thought of Clarice when she posted pic of hers .

Thanks PP ..pigeons and doves actually prefer corn but will eat the good stuff so we scatter cheap food on ground .

Hi Sue not sure how close you would be to an area of marshland or reed beds in particular ..they roost in reed beds and most of these displays occur over them.Only ever saw once near Slimbridge in Gloustershire like ariel ballet .

Oops sorry Deida ..will do now .. then go to naughty step..

Aye Morgana they come and go in big waves dont they.

24 Nov, 2009

They certainly do Bonkersbon.

Brill photo BB, the starlings love it....

Brilliant action shot!

If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I hope I come back as a bird near your home Bonkers/Jane...,it would certainly be like having a little slice of heaven here on earth !

Across the road they have a flat roof and the water collects in there. The flocks of starlings gather to have a communial bath and all we can see from here is splashes of water coming up from it.

Thanks for kind comments.....Flc...you are TOO kind ! Lindak...Lol !

1 Dec, 2009

One of their cats was sat on the top of the bay window watching them today but the starlings didn't seem to care.

Think with so many pairs of eyes Linda one sure to raise the alarm .. those roosting diplays show how skilled they seem to be at arriving and leaving together.

Starlings seem to be just like us living in family groups with all different characters. We have one starling that as a youngster bullied off everyone from the birdtable and it now lives almost on it's own because no one wants to get near it.

Snap Lindak..one of our baby starlings was very bossy earlier in the year and was a bit of a loner. He hangs around away from main flock even now !

2 Dec, 2009

Yesterday I noticed that our flock of starling seems to have got bigger and they were sitting in the bare ash tree near the fields.

16 Dec, 2009

Lindak...Our flock of starlings have increased as the weather has become colder the last few days.Must have at least 50 now !!

17 Dec, 2009

Safety in numbers perhaps.

18 Dec, 2009

Lindak every winter i get loads, infact think i get all the starlings in blackpool coming to my garden.

18 Dec, 2009

Clarice perhaps they know where they are well looked after.....your garden!!!

18 Dec, 2009

Clarice...heavy snow here today. The starlings finished the fat dish in record time ! Huge dishful gone by lunchtime ! Lol

18 Dec, 2009

Yesterday i had to go out and throw some biscuits at lunch time to give them some extra as its a long time for them from dusk to dawn is'nt it. :o)))

19 Dec, 2009

It certainly is Clarice ! Well done for looking after yours so well !
