If you remember my fencing blog at the end of August you may recall my son in law and friend down in a dry ditch building a retaining wall and erecting my new fence. This is the ditch today and the water level has gone down a lot since Monday!

Really glad that the water is receding Gee. I hope it continues to. Good luck.

I can see now ,looking back on your blogs, how much work has gone into your lovely garden! Those guys really worked hard on your fence, you have been very unlucky with trees doing damage as well. All our trouble has been through crowding us with housing developement.

how's it been since then?

This is the same ditch that is causing me problems now, Fran. The garden is flooded again today, three quarters of the way to the house walls :( I have been emailing various people trying to get it sorted but it is hard work!

oh, so sorry to hear that, Gee. Is it the ditch itself that's causing the prob? is it blocked up with stuff, or just that it's there at all? but surely the water it holds that deep would have been spread out even more across the ground if it hadn't been threre? all the very best for getting ti sroted!

Oh Gill I'm so sorry to hear this bad news , and hope you can find someone who is willing to help sort the problem out ,is this photo taken on the pond side of the fence ?

It is, Amy, usually the ditch works well, but sometimes it gets blocked as it goes into a culvert under the road. Trouble is the Council seems not to realise (or haven't the money) that it would work OK if it was cleared routinely. Much better today as no rain and I've cleared the silt away from the paths easily enough. Some of the plants look rather sad but sometimes they sprout up and surprise me :)

Its not fair they need to do something to solve the problem permanently I bet they would if it was their garden ,even some chicken wire over the entrance to the culvert might stop some rubbish getting trapped ...

I had a visit from one of the parish councillors this morning. I seems such a shame that you have to be 'rude' to get a response! Anyway, the matter is 'in hand' and hopefully will be dealt with soon. As you say, a permanent solution would be good but I daren't hope for that :)

lets hope its looked into properly and dealt with quickly we shall be keen to know the outcome Gill !

I have trouble a short distance away having to walk through sewage to get to the shops Gee. I got a friend to help me email a photo off my smart phone to a councillor, when the manhole was spurting muck all over the footway, due to heavy overnight rain! So annoying when facilities are not properly maintained

Yuk, that sounds horrible, Dorjac, at least mine is just ditch water. We went down to New Romney yesterday and one road there has collapsed, leaving a huge hole and a broken sewer pipe- very unpleasant for the householders.

Maybe the council need to be reminded of the old proverb "A stitch in time saves nine" - a litle bit of work now and then would save a heck of a lot of work later - unless they expect householders to do all the work
