Coprosma 'Pacific Night'

Coprosma 'Pacific Night' (Coprosma repens (Mirror Plant))

I went to the Garden Centre, just for a light fitting for my tropical fish tank (!) and came back with this plant. It was in the bargain basement, £10 including matching ceramic pot. I recognised the name from GoY but not much else. The label says hardy to -8 so I pondered for as long as it took to locate my daughter and then asked her to carry it for me! It's about 4' tall including pot so seemed a bargain. I hope Spritz and David (and anyone else who has one) will please give me some advice on my rash buy - should I put it in my greenhouse or just in a sheltered spot for the winter? Will it be OK left in a pot (but it may need a bigger one). The colour of the pot goes beautifully with the foliage :)

Its a beauty Gee, and I just gave it a quick google, and although it says hardy it also says frost tender, so be wary. Its too nice to loose....

My one C. "Pacific Night" is in my shed, Gee, and I saw that Spritz has her entire collection in her greenhouse, where there is heating available to keep them FROST-FREE - which is the main thing. What a good bargain, considering the height of the plant and the ceramic pot. :-))

I bought one of these in the spring. It is planted in full sun in soil with plenty of grit incorporated. I've just mulched the roots with straw this afternoon and may fleece it too if the forecast is for really low temperatures. I'm hoping it will come through the winter like this

Thank you, everyone. I think I will move it into the greenhouse for the winter. It's not heated all the time but I can put the paraffin heater on if frost is threatened.

Yes, TT, I did remember to buy the light so my fish are now illuminated again :)

We have 2 Gee in borders they get no special treatment and perhaps being near coast prevents harsh frosts that so damaging to them.

We may have struck lucky so wouldnt recommend you follow our example but certainly a test to their hardiness - perhaps keep it sheltered as suggested in the meantime will keep you posted if ours continues to survive .

Thanks, BB, mine is now in the greenhouse as we have had two days of very hard frosts! I've taken the ice off the watering hole and it has stayed on the grass without melting - so cold! I hope to get some fleece before the weekend just as an extra precautions or I may use newspaper if I can't get to the GC.
