The start of the long month or two column of flowers on the sea onion. The whole stem moves every day, writhing like a hypnotized cobra. Just wonderful.

Thank you Sandra. Very reliable so far, but this bloom has been really thrilling, a quick recovery from a fall and still a bloom right on time. Something I liked as unusual I've now learned to love.

Thank you all for commenting. I am so joyous this has recovered and offered the prettiest bloom yet! I do remember, Hywel, chopping it off with the ceiling fan last year. LOL! I don't think I'll ever forget. Now this is after a one story jump from the loft breaking off the leaf column just three months ago. Great recovery, I'm very impressed. Its gained an honorary position on the steps now. :-)
Amblealice, this stem is about 21/2ft long right now and twists so the bud is upsidedown halfway round. It looks likes like thrashing and at just my knee, like a hypnotized cobra....lol.., the bud pointing up, then down. The way the plant moves reminds me of a prayer plant, slow and methodical. The spent seedhead last year was about 2ft long itself and in a long spiral rather than a straight stem. This is a relative to sea squill native to the mediterranean, a bulb that blooms first then greens, the flower spike on a straight 5-8ft stem.

Nice close up of the bud & flower - makes quite an interesting houseplant with a lot of personality!
