Now that's really something !
I did 'not' expect to see the base/trunk, i thought it was just the leaves .... into /on the ground.

the brown around the trunk is old leaves like on a tree fern or cordyline...i think....

You're correct...sometimes the old leaves are removed and the trunk is visible.
