Garrya Elliptica. This picture this afternoon. As you can see, it's got loads of catkins.

Thank you Janey. I keep this one in trim, as I don't want it too big, so I prune it a bit every year. I don't let it go any bigger than 6 feet, 7 feet maximum :-)

Really.....and how wide would you say it is Louis...maybe I could have room for one after all...:o)

Yes Janey, mine is about 5 feet wide, but it can be pruned to fit any gap. This plant must be about ten years old. As the branches span out, you can prune them to fit any gap..... :-)

I think this may be what I've been looking for to fill a gap down the garden....evergreen with Winter interest....and I could prune it to fit.....Thanks Louis! Happy gardening for 2010!

I love these plants :-))))

Me, too, and, like you Janey, always thought it would need a very large space. Many Thanks, Louis, for the pruning info. Seems that this beauty can be available to more of us than I thought. :-))

Thank you Janey, Louise1 and David. This plant is quite hardy, it can stand any "amputations" LOL. I find, the best time to prune this plant is August, well, that is when I do mine every year......So go for it ladies and gentlemen, treat yourselves to this beauty. Like Janey, said...green all year round, and interesting this time of year.........:-)
