The Great Salt Lake

I finally found the beach there, where we went to swim. This is the western hemispheres version of the dead sea, a large inland body of salt water. The concentration here is more similar to the ocean. There are a few algae farms at the shallow edges.

Do you float in this because of the salt?

Thank you all for the nice comments. Another good warm up photo, It was very warm and wonderful that day. The salt concentrations aren't high enough to float like the Dead Sea. It supports marine life like sea weeds and shrimp. I hadn't been out here since I was 7 yrs old. I'm proud to have cauht a photo as we wizzed by along a small dike built after big flooding in the early 80's.

Thanks. This south beach is my favorite vantage of this lake. This is off the beaten path, unless one frequents Reno or Tahoe from the mountain west. Spectacular place, this is the beach next to a recreation playground called the Saltair, est. 1893 as a pier associated with the idea of Coney island, burned down and rebuilt with the worlds largest dancehall in 1925 but never as popular. Filmed in Carnival of Souls in 1962, it was flooded and again, fires. rebuilt in 1981 and immediately flooded again. Now it is a mostly abandonded site used for concert events, imagine going to one of those! I've another photo of the building I should post. My parents have always relayed disneyland-like imagery from visits there as children in its haydays.

This is a tremendous photo, GT! I just love it! We have seen too little blue sky & sun in the last couple of months that it's beginning to "weigh down" on us! If we don't get something like that here very soon we'll all be "SAD" (Seasonal Affective Disorder)! Though to be fair last Sunday we did get a glimpse of the sun & some blue sky for a few hours in the morning but it was just a reminder of times past!
Reminds me of the song "Mr Blue Sky"!

"Mr. Blue Sky...please tell us why...you had to hide away for sooolong ...so long... " me too, Balcony! You are giving some excellent material here...I showed the pic of the vista with the grand canyon 200 miles away to my hubby...he was suitably impressed...(Keep it up!) lol....

Thank you both, Lori and Balcony. This one is particularly storn on the summer blue side. Great spot to have a pier resort wouldn't one think? I hope there are many blue skies to come, and spring chasing right behind it. :-)
I may back track a little in Zions National Park as well. Don't know that I posted much of that. Southern Utah really has some sights to see.
