Thank you everyone. Yes Mavis, Spice is very lonely now, she keeps following me everywhere and miowing during the night.

Would a new companion be suitable for her ?

No Louise, she is very defensive and timid. She would not allow any other cat or kitten to come near her. Also at 17 years old, another would outlive her and then we would have the same situation again. We have decided that another pet would mean another 10 years commitment at least, and we become so attached. We couldn't stand another loss, if that were to happen.

I understand completely, you'll just have to be her companion more than ever

Having lost two of my cats last year I understand what you mean about the loss,Spice will adjust hopefully more so with you being there for her with lots of extra attention.

You never seem to get over it. It takes so long, poor Spice it must be so lonely for her, I know you give her lots of love, but she must still feel alone

Spice is still with us. She is now 18 years old and apart from being deaf she is as fit as ever. She has become very 'skinny' but I understand that this is something that happens to older cats. She eats well and spends as much time as we allow sitting on our laps and our shoulders. I think because she can't hear us she has to feel us.
