Geranium maderense - Madeira Geranium and me in Balboa Park

Geranium maderense - Madeira Geranium and me in Balboa Park (Geranium maderense - Madeira Geranium)

I'm standing next to a Geranium maderense - Madeira Geranium in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Some were in bloom but this plant wasn't blooming yet...however, I wanted to show scale. I'm 6 foot / 1.83 meters tall. Yes, and I know...I look like a tourist. LOL!!!
Photo taken on a hot Feb. 16th 2010 day.

Bluespruce, Amblealice and Louise1:

Yes, this clump was large...however, there's actually larger/taller clumps. This plant grows wild in Balboa Park. A few were blooming...I can guess within the next couple of weeks many more will be in bloom.

Yes, I look like a typical tourist when it's hot or warm outside. It was unbelievably warm even at 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon when this photo was taken. : > )

These plants grow wild in many shady areas of the park. This plant was in the perfect photo opp area.

Bloomer:

Thanks! We're just having the typical winter heat wave which started last Friday and should be ending by this coming Saturday. Freezing fog sounds horrible! BRRR! I hope it warms up soon for you! : > )

I am so envious - I love this plant but can never grow it to anywhere near this size - no wonder you have a smile on your face! They grow well in the far Southwest of the UK (Cornwall) but nothing as spectacular as this.

This plant grows literally like a weed in Balboa Park. It's not really much looked at...until it's in bloom. : > ) I'll be posting more pics of these plants when they're in full bloom.

Milky:

Thanks! It's been warm to hot since last Friday, however, the weather is going to cool down this coming weekend with possible showers. It's just our typical heat waves which we have throughout winter. : > )
I hope you have a great spring soon!

Mushybanna:

Thanks! I have many Aloha shirts. It's a must -- since I from Honolulu, Hawaii. : > )

It does reseed..everyplace. I have one that is in a hanging basket of large Tillandisia's. I think its great that they can naturalize on little water.

Nice stand of plants.I have to keep them down to 2 plants maybe 3 at the most. No much room.

I see that Tibochina shrub poking out in back.

Yes, this area has a lot of Tibouchina heteromalla growing amongst the Geranium. T. heteromalla blooms in fall.
