Thanks for your comments Holly, Yorkshire, Amy, Homeibrd and Neellan ... this is about the only spider I like to see in my garden. He's not only harmless, but creates these beautiful webs ... it's like a decoration in my garden!

being Scottish I was very curious why the spider was called "St Andrews Cross" so looked it up on good old google and it is because of the way it sits with legs out like flag. [thats my learning fact of today] lol lovely photo Bernieh

checked another site and it says it is named St Andrews Cross because of the way the web is spun so I will save that piece of info as well !!!!!!!. lol

Hi Helen ... yes I had to look it up too. Interesting, isn't it, the way things are named! I see these lovely ones around my garden all the time.

Hi Helen again ... yes apparently some of them do make a cross in the middle of the web. This one however only made a partial cross ... and seemed quite happy to have it that way.
