Lovely colourful picture, know what you mean about the chicken wire have to cover everything with it to stop the flippin rabbits,lol.

This year has been animal hell - first badgers, then rabbits, now something else - maybe a cat - has scrabbled all my new Saxifrages to bits!

But at least I have a few areas that are pretty to look at....my snowdrops are doing well, and the Irises, too.

It wasn't the ones that disappear, thank goodness, Wagger.

I had a 'border' of these 'mossy' ones in the top border, which got scrabbled up when the wild animals were around - but I used the opportunity of digging the whole area as it was infested with couch grass. Then I bought 4 beautiful new ones...all ruined. Boo-hoo! What and why is now the question - I still think it was a cat. There was 'evidence'!

I had to do the same Barbara , the birds had pecked the flowers out and left them laying beside the plant , someone said Pheasants will do it , we do have a regular pheasant that comes to feed each day so I wouldn't be surprised !

I didnt notice the wire when i first looked so dont let it demoralise you too much. I spotted a pheasant pecking emerging crocus on sunday. it flew off when i threatened to cook it for tea. :o)

I too have the evidence of the neighbours 'blinking' cat scratting arond the newly cleared beds. luckily no plant damage.

So the culprit could be my nice friendly Pheasant SBG .... I will have to make sure Fred dosn't come your way .. pot or not to hotpot !

I do love my pheasant but normally he goes around one of the feeders.

I don't think it is - we get one at the other side of the garden, near the lane, he just marches across the grass and then flies off when H. appears. This isn't every day - just an occasional visit. I haven't seen him for months now!

I still reckon it's a cat this time. :-(( Cat stew, anyone>?

Oh Barbara, how anoying, it's very very pretty.You can't see the wire. I sometimes use an old wire hanging basket with the chains taken off. It also helps to suport plants. If put on early eneough the leaves can grow through. Eventualy you don't see the basket.

I wish some people would stop their dogs trampling through my garden and frightening my cat and my friend ! Dogs are a menace when not on a lead. Dog stew anyone ?
You had better be careful of henry chasing cats Spritzhenry. My old cat used to attack dogs. She would go for their eyes. I had no sympathy for those dogs. They shouldn't go chasing after other animals.

He's only protecting his territory, Hywel! He chases pigeons, too, and pheasants, and ducks - but not smaller birds.

I sympathise with you about the trampling - but it's the owners who are at fault.

I think it's wrong for dogs to go chasing other animals. Their owners should keep them under controll. And if the dog gets attacked it will be their own fault. And when I attack the dog that keeps doing it's dirty business by my garage it will also be it's own fault.

Maybe you should get a cat of your own Spritizhenry. It would chase the other cats away. I have never had cat trouble in my gardens. My own cats have always chased the others away. I wish I still had Fluffy. She used to chase dogs away too, and attack them if she had a chance.

Sorry, Hywel, but if Henry is in his own garden, he can chase out other animals, and I shall not stop him. He'd never attack them, by the way.

Outside the garden, he is always under control, and I do not allow him to foul in anyone's garden, (or indeed go in without an invitation)..

Please let's drop this subject - we have to agree to disagree on cats v. dogs as pets, I think. I certainly don't want to fall out with you, my friend!

I do that with hanging baskets too Pamd to stop the rabbits eating my delphiniums, agree works as a good support too :-)

I haven't got any old hanging baskets, unfortunately, as I can see that they'd be very useful - I'm not allowed to fix any on the house as it's a listed building. Silly, really, but there it is. It'll have to be chicken wire under the soil if I plant any more tulips or crocuses next autumn.

Oh dear, Simbad - I planted some new Delphiniums this afternoon - I do hope that rabbit doesn't reappear!

It's a shame baskets wouldn't keep slugs off! I've only ever seen one rabbit in the garden and I think that must have been an escapee as I don't think we have wild ones up here.

Hope they leave your delphiniums alone Barbara which variety have you planted?, I've got some pink seedlings 'Astolat' I pricked out a week or so ago wanted some pink ones for a while, can't wait till they flower, love delphiniums:-)

In the back garden, I have three colours, 'Black Knight', 'Galahad' and err... a dark purple one. Can't think of its name!

I'm glad to be able to say we have foxes here = perhaps that's why we only saw it twice. I wouldn't mind having Hazel around but don't fancy giving a home to General Woundwort. LOL

I don't want any of them taking up residence, thanks! However, short of putting in a low electric fence all the way round the garden, which sounds awful and would be an eyesore, apart from the cost, that is, I can't keep 'em out!

Thats really weird Barbara as I have 'Black Knight' and grew 'Galahad' last year hopefully flower this, also have 'Pacific Hybrids' some lovely colours in those have an especially lovely lilacy blue one.
Know what you mean far too expensive to put fencing round ours too :- ( so just have to put up with them, once the plants get going don't seem to be as much of a problem.

I remembered the name of the other one - it's 'King Arthur'. Very 'Camelot' minded, aren't we! ;-)))
