I've only seen them on my feeders once - in the Winter. I was so thrilled that I bought some nijer seed but they havn't been back. Lots of other birds though. Your goldfinches are beautiful.

Thanks everyone, I can get up to 20 at a time! I have 2 10 port feeders + a 4 port one and a gravity fed one ~ But I have yet to get a good enough photo of them, they seem to know when they are being snapped! I was sat in my van when I took this, I had just come home from work. Perhaps that's the answer, turn the van into a hide!!

Aren't they just? This is about the 3rd year I have had them, started off with only a few.

I've just bought a Nyger seed feeder and am wondering whether to put it alongside the other feeders on the 'shepherds crook' pole or up in a tree ? Any suggestions ? : o )

~they are very cute~have about 8-10 at any one time on the sunflower and niger feeders~ the only downside is the mess underneath but they are worth it.
Had a pair of bullfinches today~so lovely to see them together..

Oh yes Arlene...that mess ! As you say..worth it though ! Lucky you...bullfinches.....

~ I think they are nesting in some tall trees at the back on the edge of the wood~I hope they manage to raise their young~so many Rooks.Magpies etc~

Megan ~ my Nyger feeder is hanging here with the sunflower hearts. They feed from both. They do make a mess, but the pheasant comes and clears up, the Blackbird likes the hearts too!

~ I have a little wren which is always hopping around as well as some blackbirds and robins but the sunflower detritus is the worst to shift as it seems to get everywhere and nothing keeps up with the daily fallout!~can I borrow your pheasant?maybe keep one as a pet! The stuff gets into all my pots!~last year I was pulling nyger/sunflower seedlings up by the handful~ doesn't smell that great when wet but I have it on very good authority that we are in for a long hot summer so start storing water now!...

I've had niger seed in the garden for about two years and only once last year have I seen a goldfinch in the garden although there are lots around.

Toto ~ I find they eat more sunflower hearts than anything. This is the first year they have eaten the Nyger, I usually end up removing the feeder!

My van is definitely the best place to get photos from! I also realised that the shutter noise the camera makes disturbs the birds, so I turned it off!
