I wish I could teleport myself down to your garden - I'd want to land in the jungle and spend at least an hour or two just meditating there! No other visitors would be allowed of course...just me, the water, the birds and the colours.....and peace!

What 'are' foo dogs, Four Seasons ?
28 May, 2010
These are chinese dogs - the red ornaments. Male dogs (like ours) have a ball under one foot; the female dogs have a cub under one foot.

How interesting, how did you come to hear of them ?

We visited China. But before this, we had been searching out oriental ornaments - mainly from the Henri Studio range. We liked the red ones since they stood out in the winter when the red acer foliage had gone. We then found ornaments in other ranges that we liked, too, but they weren't red. We realised that we could use the paint refurbishing kit from Henri and paint any ornaments we liked. The paint kit starts with a bright pillar box red paint which is overlaid with a black paint. The black is mainly rubbed off - leaving the darker areas in the creases. A matt varnish is then applied.

I was thinking of getting Foo Dogs for the entrance to my house. Was thinking kind of turquoise blue or red. I like how your Foo Dogs stand within the planting and are quite tall. Red also works really well with your landscape!

The red shows up in the winter and is a welcome sight in the snow and frost.
