It was a pair of Jays that we saw hasseling the thrush nest before they deserted it .. !

What a shame, Amy. Probably for the best if they hadn't hatched anything yet - Jays will take the young so they may have found a safer site now. Jays are so beautiful but nasty - and noisy.

Three babies had hatched Wagger plus 1 egg , they were very tiny ...it's such a shame ....

How sad - I hope they're more successful somewhere else. It's a part of nature we just have to accept.

I've never seen Jays anywhere near my garden, only up in the woods. My problem is jackdaws and crows, dozens of them swoop down as soon as I put food out and this morning, for the first time, a magpie came with them. I keep chasing them away but some are quite bold. I wondered about investing in some 'small bird' feeders to see if that helped but don't know if that will prevent the blackbirds feeding too?

I have the same problem Gee but with pigeons, I have had to stop putting food out on my birdtable as the little birds dont get a look in, I do have small feeders butnot seen many little birds for awhile, maybe they are nesting, but do hope they return!

Have hope for the birds. We have blackbirds that are making another nest here so the same thing must have happened to them, but they haven't given up.
