How lovely your garden is Skillen

what a lovely setting looks like it belongs there!
What a question! Why dont plants grow in a pond.........
I've had mine for five years and had trouble with everything from getting the dept right, to stopping the fish digging them out, to getting plants which go so well they take over the place. One answer I found was to plant in hanging baskets you know the ones with flat sides that screw onto the wall. Except you screw then to the side of the pond, then you can lift them out really easily. Then all you've got to do is buy the marginals.
It dosn't look as the you have fast flowing water, but I've found that's a problem as well!
Good luck.

This is very pretty, have had my pond for about 3 yrs but had a problem with blanket weed this yr so filter and pump been switched off, as soon as the water was still the plants especially the lilies went into overdrive.

Yes it is lol, she quite often swims in the pond Amy, but we need to keep a close eye on her incase she decides to sneak up into the woods behind the pond. She's not easy to lose though as she is nearly 10ft long :~))

Thankyou Upsy, when i had blanketweed it killed the leaves even quicker!

i think the problem with the plants is sunshine skillen . there is a type of lilly that comes from shaded ponds so grows better than normal ones . it has realy nice leaves to . lillies hate moving water in general upsydaisy hence them growing so much now . i bet the ponds clear and the blanket weed and algi has died of to .

11 Nov, 2010

There is light up there all day leigh its the sunniest part of the garden and there is no moving water :~((x

11 Nov, 2010

it does seam odd as lillies normaly end up being thugs needing cutting right back and you can be quite brutal . very strange .how long you had the pond come to think of it ?
if you buy very young lillies it can actualy take a few years to get up and go . your pond seams perfect if its getting enough sun.im sure your not lying again lol xx

12 Nov, 2010

Have had the pond about 8years and the lillies dont last a season, i've spent a fortune on them every year and they never come back the next year :~(((( xx

13 Nov, 2010

youl have to look out for the ones i mentioned that come from ponds in the middle of forest so dont get much light xx .
