He flies as soon as you get too close :-( He goes along the brook and away he goes.

Hi Jane, NannyM and Karen. I had never seen a kingfisher all my life until a few years ago, I suppose if the environment is there they will come, I do feel so privelaged though :-) It is amazing to see him, such a tiny bird and such vibrant colours. We have a brook running through the garden and a canal over the road, plus our pond so lots of fish and water. We hear him before we see him, he makes quite a strong pipping sound, beautiful.

Oh gosh yes! That blue flash...incredible. Don't we live in a wonderful part of the world Dawn? I wouldn't swap it, especially not for hot dry places where you can't garden!

We are lucky Karen, I agree and I've got no desire to leave my surroundings, the seasons are amazing I think.

I think I could handle being away for all of Jan and Feb D!...if one of my kids moved to NZ I would do that!

Good plan Karen, I wouldnt miss the UK too much in Jan/Feb either.
