Yes about the size of a large bumblebee Sixpence took a pic from this angle to show its wing markings and how shiny it was..

It is shiney and show s the markings brilliantly, clever you thinking of angle to get it.

Beautiful Bonkersbon, that must a hard to find hoverfly, any idea of how many different kinds there are.

Thanks Farieflora I d not come across this type before and didnt know its name till searched through reams of pics ..apparently there over 200 different varieties of hoverfly in UK alone .Many mimic other insects so not always easy to spot those large domed eyes seem familiar to most though.
