Thanks folks. Its so nice to have them around but they do frighten me. This one was about a metre long, yikes. After this it dived and then popped its head out next to a lily pad.

Dawn they make me shudder ,, do you have Adders as well ?

They scare me too Amy. I've never seen an adder - now that would be scarey. To be honest, we've only had grass snakes visible over the last few years - I wonder if the pond has attracted them.

It could be that Dawn or the other possibility is that you couldn't see them before in the grass because they were hidden from view .!
